Lazy, lazy day

We’ve had an extremely quiet weekend and I’ve done more reading than anything else but I’ve been slowly sewing the *On the vine* blocks and rows together and playing a little more in EQ. I’ve still got lots of novelty fabrics left and decided I’ll do a rail fence type quilt with them. First I thought about brights and using the brick die to cut the centers from the novelties ….

but then I wondered if a woven setting would be more interesting.

I like the woven effect. You’ve made a number of “bright” quilts lately … a more “organized” one might be a nice change … just my 2 cents worth!

I like the woven effect too, but what if you mixed it up and used a woven stripe of green, one of blue, one of red….

  • Millie:

Mary, I like the woven effect, but a rail fence quilt is always a winner too. I like both patterns!

  • Nancy:

I like the rail fence simply because I prefer scrappy quilts.

I will be the odd one out here…..I like the brightly colored one….seems happier and I think Chesty is saying the same thing….LOL!

I have a quilt with a design like the woven one. I used a fabric line (Wuthering Heights). The horizontal sashing was a blueish-green, the vertical sashing was a reddish brown. It has a piano key border with left-overs from the quilt top. It’s a great looking quilt.

Whichever one you pick! I guess it all depends on how much of any one fabric you have on hand. Just remember – when cutting a novelty that has a definate right side up – you are going to have to cut both long ways (red blocks) and length ways (brown blocks) using this design. I hate it when I forget simple things like that so thought I would mention it just in case! Cheers! Evelyn

I like the more brightly coloured one however if the centres are going to be novelty fabric the woven love may make the quilt calmer.

I just received my "AUGUST" 2009 issue of BH&G American Patchwork & Quilting magazine and there are at least 2 patterns in there that use a 3 rail unit as the center of the blocks ;) When I read taht you are in the mood for making rails.. it reminded me of my newest issue :) Hope you can take a look later today at my blog as I will post a photo of the cover ;)

    Love from Texas! ~bonnie
