How easily do you get bored?

With a quilt like this with lots of the same block — I like to get a bunch layed out on the design wall and then take 15 minutes here and there to sew one or two of them at a time. I know it would be quicker to sit down and sew them all at once but I have a low tolerance for boredom in my quilting.

I’m puttering along with my binding too – I can’t believe how slow I’m working these days…. in fact, I can’t quite figure out where the days are going.

yours are looking good. I tend to get tired very quickly of a piece if there is too much of the same ole, same old in it. I don't lay out on a design wall but do it in my head to speed things along.. Hang in there, it will be worth waiting for. cw

When you find out where your days are going, please could you have a look and see if mine have gone there too?

As for boredom, I just find I grit my teeth and go for it fast and just keep thinking of how I am going to quilt it.

with this type of sewing I also put a time limit on it
usually a 1/2 hr. then I go and do something else for awhile…
or if I am excited about the quilt being finished I just keep sewing till they are done!

nice to see more donation quilts coming your way..

Hey Mary, just wondering what your design wall is made of?

I find I get bored with a quilt once I know how it's going to turn out. Which is why I have so many tops, I guess. My interest has been off and on the past year, but I don't see myself ever giving up quiltmaking.

I do get bored if there are repetitive blocks. Right now I am working on pattern called 'Radio Flyer'. I started it last August:(
I was getting tired of sewing little squares to corners….still not done. I think if I had more free time to sew, it would go faster.

I think that is why I have so many projects going at once!

  • Quilter Kathy:

Me too…I am easily bored. At quilt retreat I always take about 10 projects just in case I get bored. One of the gals takes 1 project…and I get bored looking at her working on the same thing for 3 days! LOL
Sounds like you're on the "lazy days of summer" quilting clock.

I am sorry to say, I get both bored AND distracted very easily, and it's betting worse as I get older!

If I'm going along okay, I reach for a goal of 10 and leave it at that. I usually sew in numbers of 10. Then I'll consider that an accomplishment and MOVE ON! My standards are so low… :)

I believe that repetition leads to boredom … which is why my sewing room is FULL of UFOs. The most productive I've ever been was at a weekend long quilt retreat. Everything was cut out and ready to sew … I felt soooo good about accomplishing the piecing of three quilt tops … that was over a year ago … today they're in my sewing room waiting to be backed/sandwiched and quilted. Might be time for a "finishing" retreat… LOL

Love the pink and brown quilt … I just love, love, love scrappy quilts. I find them LESS boring that ones that use a full line of fabric and are very "coordinated".

Hi Mary! My days go outside at summer mostly. After dark and cold winter I want enjoy my garden and outsidelife. Strawberries are ready and blueberries begin to be. I pic lots of wild berries at forests!!Your stars and pinwheels looks great. Prited them for future! Have sewed 3 tops after my quilt show. I love still sewing, but want to do other things too. Where I could get more time at my clock?? Asks Aune from Finland

I get bored very easily – that's why I have so many UFO's. I like to test a new pattern or idea, but when I have done that – I often loose interest in the project. It helps me working on two boring ones and a new one at the same time.

by the way – I think you should move one of the left corner blocks
from the block in the middle – lower row,
to the left block in the upper row to spread the beige corners more

How often do I get bored? Every ten minutes — or that's what it seems like! Which is why I'm always juggling about a dozen things…it's A.D.D. Crafting!
