I finished piecing my Diamond Strings — thanks to focusing on it during our HeartStrings holiday weekend sew-in but I’d hoped to get a backing pieced and another small top quilted today so I could load this one and quilt it tomorrow.

But after lunch Keith and I went to Home Depot to order tile for the kitchen backsplash and I picked up a couple more shelving units in my never ending quest to be more organized. The first one is in my longarm room which also functions as my office. I can place the bins with files, backings, tops, etc. on the shelves instead of them sitting in the various boxes they were shipped to me in. I’m going to move that top shelf down some.

DSC_8103Finally, I had a couple bins with finished quilts waiting for donation sitting at the bottom of the stairs – this small shelf is much neater but I’d like to talk Keith into letting me put a taller one there.

  • Your top looks great; I love the sparks of red. It looks as though you planned the colors as you went along… or is that serendipity? I’m afraid I didn’t make as much progress as you.

  • Ah, the never ending quest for more, and more efficient space. I’m always looking too

  • That dark strip on the string block really sets all the colors off dramatically. Very nice, as per your usual. 8-)))

  • I love those shelves. Last summer I bought 2 of the 5 shelf sets in white and it’s made my sewing area so much neater & I can find stuff! This past week I brought in a 4 shelf set just to get stuff up off the floor so I can go though it. I hope those are gone before too much longer!

Great job Mary! I have to tell you that while I was on my walk this morning I saw Keith 2x on his bike…the first time I was walking across the Stone Arch Bridge and he was coming towards me…the second time he was going up the river (toward your townhome) and I was on my way back to Mills Ruins Park! I thought, “Hey, I know that guy but he doesn’t know me!” lol

  • I really love those string quilts, they are so effective!!
Your shelves look so neat. I am in need of “clutter busters”!!

  • Ruth:

The top looks great. Love the new shelves.

  • Love it, nice and colourful!

  • Great quilt with a super layout. Those shelves look good and soon you’ll be so well organised you won’t be able to find a thing!

  • Cecile:

Lovely. Really like the top. There are never enough hours in the day!

I have those exact shelves in my sewing room … packed to the gills, too! They are fantastic and STRONG and a value for the $$. Found them very easy to put together, too. I am on a constant quest to organize and clean my sewing area. I find I am much for effective and creative in an organized environment. I purchased the shorter shelving units (just like your tall one but only shorter) and they fit perfectly inside a closet in my sewing room. Now I can just close the doors and “hide” some of the abundance of fabric that I have. If I could only think of how to disguise the piles on the guest bed …. hmmmmmmmmm

  • HI Mary! Love your diamonds, just so very pretty. Seems like you are pretty organized! And do so much good for others. I want some of those storage shelves…just the thing!

  • Betty:

I am using those shelves too! They are the best, I have some in the laundry room, and just added one 4 shelf unit to my sewing room, and it was amazing. Everything fit. I had 3 of those small plastic storage units with three drawers, and they fit with a 1/2 inch to spare, My books fit on the bottom shelf, clutter free ‘stuff’ leaves more time for quilting. I like your heart strings quilts.

  • Tanya:

Oh my goodness, you are so organized. I’m not letting you in my sewing room to see the state of my shelves!
