At home vacation

Keith’s off this week so after working during the HeartStrings Sew-in this labor day weekend I’ve been spending time with him rather than sewing — I am doing a little binding at night when he goes to bed but so far no progress on the pink & brown blocks on the design wall except to come across the one with the squares rotated the wrong way — glad I found it before it was sewn into to the top!

The top is too big to fit on the design wall so these are only part of them…..

Look at the bottom two corners and you’ll see where I rotated those two squares wrong…..

Boy, it was hard to figure out what was wrong in the bottom two squares. It took a bit– but I DO see it. I think being so close to it made it tricky. Looking at the overall blocks on the design wall– it’s easier to see the layout. Very nice design, I LIKE it!

  • Ay first I could not see where you had gone wrong but when you pointed it out it was glaringly obvious. So pleased you noticed before you had joined them together. I probably would have missed it.

  • I love this quilt. I have downloaded the pattern, but wonder if I will ever make it. I am finding it increasingly difficult to baste my quilts into layers, ready to quilt. We had a local service which would offer this service, and, of course quilting also. I was dismayed to see there are not longarmers or even quilt shops left in our area.. which is quite large really! A sign of the times, perhaps?

  • Wow, this quilt is gorgeous. I’ll admit that it took me a while to see the wayward blocks, too.

    Hi Mary,
I’ve followed your blog all last year when I just couldn’t get to my sewing machine (the 5 year old’s kindergarten schedule was tough). Now I’m easing back into quilting and love this quilt. Have you seen anyone make it with just light and dark scraps (without the two color scheme)? Did it work? I have a friend who has given me many scraps and would love to make a throw for her ailing hubby including many of the pieces she’s given me. I’m also considering the coins strippy quilt.
