Maine – I could live here

Keith and I drove up the coast from Portland to Bar Harbor – I just love it here.DSCN7484

Click on thumbnail for a larger view — yes, I did stop at Marden’s since we happened to be driving by. Keith also spotted a quilt shop on Route 1 – Maine-ly Quilts and we stopped there too!

  • Looks like such a nice drive, Mary. I am glad you did your part for the economy at Marden’s…

  • Kathy Wagner:

    Gorgeous…I am jealous!

  • Alison:

Bar Harbour was one of our favourite places too, though we were there just as they were closing up at the end of the season (mid October if I remember correctly). Not sure if I could handle shovelling as much snow as they get in winter though LOL! Have fun and eat a lobster for me :o ).

  • I’m so anxious to see what you thought of Mardens, and which Mardens did you go to. I go to the one in Calais, which is right on the Canadian Border. They give you great cuts and they have a wonderful selection.

  • Maine is where we went on our honeymoon. We camped our way up the coast to Acadia. Maine is magical with that gorgeous scenery! I certainly hope you discovered the joy of the lobster roll!! lol

    Isn’t Mardens the best!!!

  • Wow! Gorgeous scenery! If it weren’t so cold, I could live there, too!

  • Beautiful scenery! I’ve never been to Maine, and surely haven’t been to Marden’s but I would love to go there some day. I seem to always want to move to the places I visit.

  • Darlene:

Don’t you just love Maine. My hubby is from Bar Harbor and we were there in June. (cold and wet but beautiful). I stopped at the quilt shop in Trenton before you go on the island. Nice little place.

We have vacationed in Maine twice and I agree, I could live there, but only in the summer. My ideal would be to go to Maine in May and stay there until October, then come back south for the winter. We were on Mt. Desert and I fell in love. Actually, it reminded me of Oregon, where I am from.

  • Anna:

Wow Mary, It looks like a beautiful spot-
My friend Vicki( no blog) and Rosa have told me about Marden’s. They are both Canadians from New Brunswick though Vicki lives here in Edmonton. Vicki’s mom sometimes goes across to Maine to buy her fabrics and send out here- the deals she finds there are unbelievable- fat quarters for less than a dollar- She also gets the most spectacular fabric. Hope you found some great additions for your own stash.
It probably is too early for the leaves to be turning- Autumn in the Maritimes ( Nova Scotia, New Brunswick PEI provinces close to New England shores) have such spectacular colors.,
    Warmest regards,
    Anna
    Have a great holiday

  • Looks very beautiful!

  • Maine is one of my favorite places, too! The lobster rolls are to die for and the scenery is gorgeous, especially this time of year. I hope you are able to see some foliage! Wish I was there!

  • Julie:

If you ever find yourself going south of Portland, there is a beautiful quilt shop in Cape Neddick (in between Ogunquit and York) called Knight’s. It’s in a lovely post and beam building, especially made for the shop.

  • Hope your Mardens stop involved fabric – No better bargains to be found anywhere!
