Tuesday is for Strings
I started twisting a few nine patches last night and I wanted to play with them today
….but Tuesday is for Strings. I finished the first set of Quilt as you GO blocks I’ve been working on for HeartStrings.
Now I’m going to get out of the house for a late lunch and stop by the corner grocery store to pick up a few essentials like milk on my walk home! When I get home I still have to piece a backing too.

very cool secondary pattern in those twisted nine patch blocks!
I love the twisted 4 patch. It adds personality to a very simple block. How will you join the Quilt as you Go string blocks? I’m thinking if you add a backing it will cover the quilting so I’m confused.
Thanks,
The first four blocks look great. I can’t wait to see the finished top of Twisted Nine-Patch.
Ooh, I like the twisted 9-patches. Do you just sew rectangular pieces onto the sides and then trim them so they look twisted, or is there a template (or some such measured thing) for the triangles?
Love the photo of the sewn blocks! Warms my heart!
The 9 patches are looking great. I just did a blog post about playing with my strings today. I don’t think I could ever get tired of string quilts. I haven’t yet tried the quilt as you go kind. I’ll have to check that out.
Mary,
Do you sew the strings onto batting or just a muslin foundation? Looks like batting to me.
I love your twisted patches. They’ll make a really fun quilt.
I too am interested in how you join the QAYG blocks. I’ve read about doing it with a “sashing” strip to join 2 together, but I don’t know anyone who’s ever actually done it. Is it easy?
I LOVE those twisted blocks.

Love your twisted 9 patches. So as far as the quilt as you go…..I’ve done blocks like this but am unsure of my next step. Are you going to be showing pictures of how to put them together? Or do you already have a tutorial available? Jenn
The twisted 9patches looks great! Great idea!

Have a lovely week, and happy sewing

I love seeing your latest Heart Strings projects each week. Would you consider posting a tutorial on quilt as you go Heart String blocks? I would really like to try that.
Ditto on Jenn’s comment. What are you doing with the QAYG once finished with blocks?
