How fun to receive emails and photos from people saying they’ve used one of my instructions to make a quilt — and especially when the quilts are going to a charitable organization. Today I received an email from Susan sharing photos from their retreat where they use my Red Rover instructions.
And then later today I had kind of a funny feeling when I opened this email from Accuquilt with an ad for their strip dies and saw their free project quilt.
I know the Quick Strippie I’ve had posted on my site is a really basic quilt but other than the strip sizes in this one corresponding to the size of their strip dies it looks exactly like one of mine.
I almost deleted this post because I don’t want to sound like I’m the only one who can come up with such a simple quilt but who knew I was so attached to the idea of *MY* strippie being out there and used by so many people and really it’s the instruction sheet that’s downloaded most off my MaryQuilts.com site and the one that I get tons of feedback on because the quilts turn out so cute and are so easy. Now when I see one out there, I won’t be able to assume they found it on my site.

Oh Mary, even though people don’t leave a comment, you would be surprised how many of these strippies are copied.
Don’t take it aways.
I think that there was a book on this subject too… That in no way detracts from what you have given for free.

Guess there’s nothing new under the sun. But you have an amazing site, with lots of free patterns that you’re very generous with. I’m planning on making some quilts with your patterns, and I’ll send you some pictures when I do!
Mary – I’m sure that the ad people saw your quilt and copied it. I think I’d believe that everybody copied it cuz it’s so much fun to see your quilt all over the place. Your quilts are all gorgeous and fun to do and we all love them — and do them!
I have used that stripie pattern at least 300 times to make quilts for kids in Kazakhstan and here locally. This weekend a group of people are getting together to put about 40 more of these guys together for local foster kids! What would I do without that simple, yet great quilt pattern? I really appreciate you sharing it with us and like they say, imitation is the most sincere form of flattery.
Mary you offer such a wonderful service to so many quilters, don’t feel bad.
keep giving out your patterns and keep making quilts to donate
I will always be thankful for what you do

common and understandable feeling.
others with similar discoveries say same thing.
bonnie hunter was so upset when she saw one places pattern being sold
bonnie has bars one and strippy one.
legally all they have to do is alter size or colors
its exact wording of directions with the same pattern that cant be copied
as they say..
are no original ideas anymore
know we totally love and appreciate what you do for us and everyone!!!
you give from your heart
each who takes is grateful
remember that
It does look quite similar – I would have had the same reaction! But really, there are so many quick strippies out there in the world, being loved every day, and so many people using your pattern to keeping making them. This one can’t hold a candle to the original!
You know you have truly made it when someone copies you.
Sometimes you just half-ta shake your head and go hmmmmmmm.
hugs!!

Hello Mary!
Guess it is time to come out and tell you THANK YOU! so much for your Quick Strippie quilt instructions. My little retirement community quilt group has been making them for our Project Linus chapter. LOVE it! Great way to make a wonderful quilt, using a novelty fabric that kids will love.
Thanks for all that you do…for FREE! to help your “fellow” quilters,
