Didn’t feel like working on a large quilt

So I was bad and started a new project today. I think I deserve it because I’ve only started one new quilt this year and it’s already March!

I’m not sure what this block is called — I looked it up and the closest thing I saw was an Indian Hatchet but all those blocks slanted in the same direction. I’ve seen versions of this quilt in lots of books and Judy even has a rectangle version in her new book Weekend Quilts.

So with my GO Cutter and a big set of fat quarters, I started cutting. I’m using my 6.5 inch half square triangle die and my 1.5 inch strip die. The blocks are squared to 6 inches for a 5.5 inch finished block. EASY!

Here’s my EQ drawing.

And how about a 30′s version for Mom to make?

  • Another beautiful quilt! I don’t have the 1.5 inch strip cutter but I do have the other die. I am anxious to see how your quilt turns out.

  • Ooh, this looks cool. Keep going.

  • I love it and had a collection of summery batik FQs that I was planning something similar for. I really should stop “planning” and start “doing”. How’s the cold?

  • I just got an ad for a quilting magazine in the mail. It came with two free quilt patterns and this is one of them. They call itScrappity-Do-Dah. I think Indian hatchet is more appropriate.

I love this pattern. It goes together really fast and looks wonderful in any type of fabric. I used Civil War repros for mine and used the traditional block with a fatter center. Depending on how you turn the block you get xxs and os, or for a kids quilt, hugs and kisses.
Hope you have a great day.

I have a friend who nade one like this about 2 years ago. Wonderful quilt!! And your colors are great..

  • RJ:

How do you like your Go cutter? I’ve read mixed reviews. Your projects are beautiful.

  • This is the pattern I know as X’s and O’s or Hugs and Kisses (depends on how the blocks are turned)….and it’s a fun pattern. Your colors are great! I like the 30s version for your Mom too.

  • Fun the looks you can get. Bet you could make this like a trellis with lots of florals!

  • Great design! And the Go cutter should make your cutting a snap!
How’s your cold? Hope your feeling better!

  • you’re not bad–you’re having fun!

I don’t have that die for my studio, but now I want to check into it. I love the design in both color ways, and it looks like you are having fun.

  • Ooohhh, I’ve got that one started!! It’s totally scrappy. I fell in love with it when someone showed theirs at guild awhile back then I found it in a magazine. SO PRETTY! My blocks are about the same size as yours.

I love that pattern and have started one also. I got the pattern in the mail from McCall’s quilting magazine when they wanted me to subscribe. When I saw the pattern, I thought it would be a good one to use for leaders and enders, but I really haven’t done that. I need to cut some more squares. I have about 100 done, but that won’t go very far. Good luck with yours!

  • Julie:

The Scrapitty-Do-Dah quilt is made up of these blocks that Quilting Magazine calls the Lattice Block.

  • This is a great block. We do these for siggy blocks at our guild!

  • Ooh…I love that…I wanna make one.

  • Oh, seeing the GO Cutter cutting those triangles . . that makes me rethink whether I want one! Those are quick and perfect, aren’t they!

  • I love the simplicity of this design. As soon as I saw it, my brain started in overdrive! Love your site! A scrap quilter at heart, I appreciate all the ideas and the show & tell! I’ll be back! ~karen
