Knitting and piecing

Since I’m still a bit under the weather, I’m taking it easy and doing some knitting and piecing (and reading).  I’ve turned the heel on my third pair of socks and LOVE doing two at a time.

And speaking of knitting socks, I  added a couple new items to my sewing room. Can you pick them out?

They clamp on and off the table easily – I set them up long enough to wind two hanks into balls and then unclamped them to store in the cabinet until I need them again. Aren’t these gorgeous balls of yarn?

I was trying not to build up a sock yarn stash but it’s very hard to resist buying. I’ll finish my 3rd pair in a few days but I’ve already got yarn for another 11 pair. I’m enjoying knitting these and feel like I’ll continue to do them otherwise I wouldn’t have bought the ball winder and swift.

Tomorrow I’ll put up the design wall and start arranging the blocks for what I’m going to call the Lattice Quilt for lack of a better name.

  • Hope you are feeling better soon! Yes, those sock yarns are soooo pretty, which I why I must resist even considering knitting a pair of socks LOL. I do NOT need another stash. I’ve already got three – cross stitch, dishcloth yarn, and of course quilting. Oh, and puzzle books. Adding sock yarn would not be good, but I’m glad you are enjoying the knitting.

Oh, and the Lattice Quilt pattern is great. I can’t wait to see the finished quilt.

  • I have several stashes also: knitting, quilting, smocking, cross stitch. It didn’t take me long to get a ball winder and swift either!

  • Ohhh yarn. Ohhh cool. Ohhh yummmy colors. Ohhh….

Hope your feeling better soon. Your socks are so pretty, I keep saying
that I am NOT going to learn to knit but the voice is getting softer. Your
family will all want socks now for sure.

  • I love my swift and ball winder and now wonder how I got by without them. They are real time savers!

Have you seen the Monstersocks group on Ravelry? Check out how you can use up every bit of your scrap sock yarn.

It is futile to resist the urge to purchase more sock yarn. I swear the stuff sends subliminal messages to anyone who is within “petting distance.” ;oD

  • Bertha Mallard:

I received a swift and ball winder for Christmas, 2009. I sorta hinted to my husband by giving him a website to check out. These two items have changed my knitting life. Now I can order yarn from anywhere in the world and not worry about winding it into a ball to use. I suppose I’m lagging behind in building a yarn stash–I pretty much buy it as I need it. Maybe I’ll learn better soon. :)
Good luck with your new toys.

  • Oh Mary, I am not laughing, no I’m not!!! Do like I do and blame it all on Judy L….. ;-) Hope you get over this crud soon.

I don’t know what it is about socks and sock yarn. I’ve been knitting for years and sock yarn is the biggest part of my stash. Just give in and remember… socks can be worn and will be worn out eventually. You will ALWAYS need more socks. bwahahahahaha

  • Hi Mary,
I also love to knit socks. Everytime I finished two pairs, I use the wool to make a pair out of the leftovers.
I am knitting about 50 pairs. I still have leftovers from all the last years. And I am trying to use them up. They weigh more than 6 pounds. I also have lots of scraps.
Greetings from Germany ( which still lies under a snowblanket).
    Sabine
