Books I’m reading

Our Small Grandson is obsessed with ‘Weather’. He watches the Weather Channel and can tell us all the differing clouds and what they indicate. It is so unusual for a small boy.
I love, love, love the sound of thunder, falling rain and the flashes of lightening when I’m snug in my bed. The sound of softly falling rain puts me into the deepest, most restful sleep … we need rain BADLY in the Pittsburgh area … really, really dry here ;-(
Our dog gives me a minimum of a 30 minute warning before a storm’s approach. I’m grateful: it gives me time to unplug the computer before the lightening strikes!
I love storms in the night too – open all the blinds in my bedroom, and feel safe and secure in bed watching and listening.
Of course, we’ve had more than our share here in Nebraska lately, and now I’m battling weeds and mushrooms in the yard – and some are dealing with floods, but I still love to watch it rain.
Not me! I hate it when you can see the lightening through your closed eyelids.
I did the same thing last night as Sharon does — I opened the blinds so I could lie in bed and watch the light show. Our weather warning radio kept going off with warnings for our county (3 times!), making it a little hard to sleep. And today it feels like all the humidity is out of the air, so the storm was well worth it.
I like storms and big noisy lightening and thunder. That said, we came home after an hours absence on last Saturday and found that we or someplace very near us had been hit by lightening. The computer was fried plus one of the TVs and outlets in two other locations in the shop and garage One of these was where the freezer was plugged in. Didn’t discover this one for several days. I haven’t found anyone to explain how the problems were on four different circuts. The good news was the sewing machine was OK and the computer was covered by warranty.
Having survived 5 hurricains, I’m pretty much done with storms. Also we, too, get a lot of lightening: fried the main circuit to my studio. I’m not afraid of storms but not fond of them, either.
I don’t mind the rain, but the wind and tornados freak me out. We’ve had 2 BIG storms come through here this week. Got 4 inches of rain in 90 minutes on Wednesday evening causing lots of street flooding. Another inch, with 70 mph wind, last night. Enough for awhile I hope.
I’m not a late night storm fan, especially when they say it’s also a flash flood warning. Today we were fortunate that the dam at Lake Delhi, about 75 miles from us, breached in the middle of the day so people were aware. It was ugly, but not as bad as it could have been. But the lake front homes will now be a long way from the water.
