Another exploded block

Since finishing the Carpenter Star top, I’ve been on the lookout for another block to explode.

Do you have a block encyclopedia? I use EQ for designing quilts and while I often use blocks from there, I like to page through a book with blocks and modify or draw my own many times. My absolute favorite book for this is The Quilter’s Album of Patchwork Patterns by Jinny Beyer.

I didn’t use one of the exact blocks in the book – but I played around with squares and half square triangles until I came across this result and I’ve got some pretty purples in the stash that would work. Not sure when I’ll get to it but I love it.

Love the purple exploded block! I could see doing it in many colors, but for me, purple first.

This is tempting me! I still want to make your churn dash quilt. Now you have another one to tempt me! Working on my rose of sharon/tree of life anniversary quilt for my parents. Then will have to decide which one of your patterns to use for my next quilt project. Thanks for sharing your patterns. You choose the best colors!

    Hi Mary.
I am not sure if it is you who have send a comment to my blog, but anyway, my seach for “Mary´s quilt” gave me the chance to find this blog and see the most beautiful quilts. I will definately come back to see more.

Love the Purple Exploded Star quilt, Mary. It would look wonderful in just about any color combination, too, and I’m thinking about making something like that as my first-ever wallhanging. Mostly I just do bed-size quilts. Have you thought about what size you might make this beauty?

I just finished the second Carpenter Star quilt top. I really enjoy making that one, and actually have fabric from my stash to make a third (I’m thinking Christmas gifts for my sisters!).

Thanks for sharing these patterns; I love stopping by here to see what’s new!
