Still tying

The 3rd quilt is on the table and halfway done and the other two are completed including binding. I’ll have to see if I can finish one more before Keith gets home but I’ve got a lot of picking up to do. He hates it when I clutter up the living room and it try to keep the clutter down but right now along with the tying table sitting in the middle of the floor there is quilting and knitting stuff everywhere!!

I need to figure out how to have my knitting stuff available without having it clutter the coffee table.

  • Put a basket by your chair. Handy but out of sight.

  • Ha, I am not the only one it seems that has a mess on the table, floor, settee or anywhere else that’s handy. I find it good to have a knitting bag or box handy by the side of the settee. Judith

Clutter is the sign of a creative person. ;-)
You could get a couple of very pretty project bags for your knitting, and he’ll never know.

Mary, I have one of these knitting baskets by my chair. It works great; I can pick up my stuff whenever I have time to stitch. I’ve had mine for years and have re-covered it twice. I bought the wooden frame in a kit and made my own cover.

You need a basket, a nice big hand-made basket. Something unique…….and expensive!

  • I have started to do a bit of knitting and joined a knitter’s group. I can’t believe how much stuff I need for my knitting. I am using a tote I made with lots of pockets and room to hold wool, many sizes of knitting needles, etc. This could become as bad as quilting!

  • A nice tight woven not too deep basket might work. I have also started buying those cardboard photo boxes to store things in. They are inexpensive, and sturdy and some are very attractive and have a metal label slot in the front. I love your purple yarn!

My table looks much the same and it always surprises me how quickly that happens. You’re making great progress on those quilts!

  • My DH is the same way… I save big messes for when he is gone at poker tournaments and then I have a mad dash to clean up when I know he’s on his way!

  • Put it all in some kind of container that fits in with your decor!

  • Maybe a multi-purpose piece of furniture – like a solid coffee table that is actually a chest underneath. I have seen these for ottoman’s too. There are lots of neat “storage” type of furniture pieces now. I have been looking at beds with drawers underneath for my son – anything with extra storage that looks neat (out of sight) has to be a good thing! Cheers! Evelyn

My chair seems to be constantly surrounded, too. I do have near bye drawers for scooping things into.
    Good luck,June

I have a basket at the end of the couch, but it spills over so I always feel like it’s creeping into the room. I have my main stash somewhere else, but I’m always pulling piles of stuff out to use.

  • Cyndi Holguin:

I have mine in the ottoman keeps it hidden. John doesn’t much care I am the one who doesn’t like the clutter. I also have a basket for the yarn cause it looks cool. but the other stuff like needles books markers etc. I but in the ottoman.

  • Deb Praus:

My coffee table has a couple of drawers so I can always quickly open one and toss the stuff in. The problem is that I can quickly open the drawer and toss it in! Then i have to clean it out. lol

  • Michele in TN:

I call the “gathering” of yarn, fabric, needlework magazines, etc. my “nest”. It is right beside my favorite chair. I also use one of the folding wooden frame fabric baskets to keep my knitting beside my chair. It is great because I can pick it up, fold it closed and take it with me to knit on the go!

  • Ahhh, I favor the basket solution for myself because I love the handmade look of woven twigs and wicker. My best thrift/consignment store usually has selections for prices like $3.50 to $5.50, so I get one for each project.
