A change in plans

I went into the sewing room and pulled out the jelly roll quilt and butterfly applique but didn’t have the right color thread, then I looked for thread to quilt the pink and purple triangles and again, I didn’t have the thread I needed so I decided I’d hand quilt it using the big stitch method. It won’t be anything exciting … just diagonal lines … and it’s likely it won’t be finished by the end of the year as planned but I’ve had a lovely afternoon sitting here stitching on it.

Your “big stitch” quilting looks like what I get when I try to quilt stitches close together. Never did get results I was happy with. It might be more satisfying if I just called it intentional. Love it on this quilt.

I would never have the time or patience to hand quilt — yours looks great. Actually, today I went to Joann’s big sale and did not plan on this, but I bought cute Christmas fabric and followed The Crafty Gemini’s pillowcase tutorial to make two pillowcases this evening for two special little children. It sure felt good to start and complete something in one evening!

Flexibility is a great trait. What thread do you use for big stitching. I’ve done it with a pearl cotton but it was really hard to get it through the quilt sandwich. Looks good finished though.
