Automated house

I’m a big fan of technology although we haven’t automated the house yet … I took a baby step today and added a couple light bulbs that I can program via an app to turn on and off, to dim, and I can even schedule the lights to turn on and off while we’re gone. I didn’t want to buy a hub and have to connect it to my WiFi so this was simple. I bought the light bulbs, put them in my lamps, downloaded the app, and set the schedules. I really need to add a thermostat that can be programmed remotely both here and at Big Canoe too.

That is interesting. I thought u had to somehow “wire” your house to do that. I will have to do some research. I love my new, first smartphone.

We have a pair of programmable thermostats and love them. We can check on the temps in any of the 6 zones. When we’re away we can turn on the a/c when the cleaning lady comes and off again when she leaves. We can check the power outut on the solar panels too on a different program. we’ve had a hub that turns lights on & off theoughtout the house for many years. Itss getting old so we may need to go to your type of system soon. what’s the name of the app?

Great idea to program each light bulb. Can you tell me where you bought your bulbs? Seems so much easier to do it that way.

We, too, are fortunate to spend time in two different places. We have nest thermostats and I am heating the house in Maine as I am on way to church in Massachusetts. We’ll be there later today. They were easy to install in Maine, but our house in Mass is an older home (Victorian) with two systems for heat and a/c. Not as easy for many reasons. But, I would not live in two places without them. I’m curious about the brand of bulb.

To someone who doesn’t even own a Smart phone, this sounds like magic. It’s a great idea. I may have to drag myself kicking and screaming into the 21st century so I can take advantage of some of the great technology that is available.

We are at times in three different locations and the programmable thermostats work great for us to be able to have a comfortable home when we arrive. While wintering in the south, it is important that we can check that our furnace is working back in the frigid cold.

For those of us who aren’t as knowledgeable as you…could you give a little more detail about the lights and bulbs and app. Thx.

I’m impressed! I am not very technologically minded and though I might have an interest I can rarely figure out how to actually do it.

I was looking at these too, so I will be interested to hear how you like them.
