I’m always being asked about my favorite apps so here’s a list. Some of these are iPhone and iPad apps others are just for the iPad. The iPhone ones will be smaller in size on the iPad. Some apps have both an iPhone and an iPad app so watch out for that in the App store and buy the iPad app if they have one.
Ancestry – I use this on the iPhone an iPad and carry my family tree with me.
Index Card – great for research notes
Google Books – For reading genealogy books and references I find free online
ImageToText – Google books doesn’t allow cut and paste so I use this OCR app to pull info to my index cards.
Book Creator – for creating ibooks and PDFs. I use this for Genealogy, for quilting, and for my photos
PDF Converter – save web pages as PDFs
Textie – great for texting from the iPad
Kindle – access to my entire Kindle library on Amazon
Web Albums – view or upload photos to my Picasa online albums
Postino – sends postcards through the mail ( you have to buy “stamps” but at 1.99 they’re worth it to me to have someone else print and mail the postcard. We use this a lot when we’re traveling.
JDknitHDlite – For knitting PDFs, allows you to import PDF patterns and follow charts using a highlighted line.
Overdrive – For borrowing audio or ebooks and reading from your local library.
Evernote – this is my design journal
Adobe ideas – for practicing or auditioning quilting designs
TouchDraw – a drafting program that I use for designing quilts when I’m not home
Embroidery1 – a reference for embroidery stitches includes some videos
Block Tool – a small block library
BlockFab HD – I don’t use this much but it does have fabric calculations for those of you that use them along with the ability to set blocks in a quilt with a few different options for settings and color schemes.
Amazon instant video
InfinityTV – this is my cable company’s app. Includes a guide as well as the ability to view some shows on the iPad
Finance – check your accounts for apps
BankofAmerica -my bank
USAA – my insurance company includes ability to look at my policies.
Discover – my credit card so I can track what I’m spending!
Facebook – I only use Facebook for family contacts but it’s a good app
WordPress – mobile blogging
Flipboard – reading blogs and I use it for USA Today – they have other options too
Photo fx Ultra – overall photo editing
Impression – a quick way to watermark my quilt photos
Instagram – fun photo effects
PicFrame – easy photo collages
Fly Delta – all my flight info
Boingo – for when the airport doesn’t have free WiFi – I can buy it by the hour via iTunes so no entering payment infomation.
