Another late night finish

I finished up these blocks this afternoon and decided to start piecing the top tonight. Once I got started I decided to keep going until the top was together. It’s 12:30AM and the lighting isn’t the best but here are a couple pictures. I’ll have to try to get a better picture tomorrow. (top picture replaced 2/4)
Don’t you hate seeing a *problem* once you finish a top. Can you see those two strips of the same green fabric in the middle block on the top row? I didn’t notice it until I took the picture so it’s not a prominent as it appears and I’m certainly not going to do anything about it now. You’ll notice that I didn’t worry about lining up my center strips perfectly – I like the more imperfect look although I have to admit that mine are a lot more consistent that the ones in the pattern.
Although I started this quilt before Judy issued her challenge, I’m counting it as my stash quilt for February. The border fabric is one that had been in my stash for at least a couple years and I looked through my strings to find ones that picked up the colors in the print. I’ll use fabric from stash for the backing too.

  1. I think I like this controlled scrappy one the best of any I’ve seen lately. Makes me want to play in my strips. But I have other things I must do first so I’ll be patient.

  2. Love the colours of this new quilt – so perfectly matching the border fabric. Had to look REAL HARD to find the ‘problem’ even after you pointed it out. Gorgeous quilt 🙂

  3. I absolutely love the border print. Gorgeous quilt. “Problems” always show up in photos of the finished quilt. It is so hard to notice that I had to look and look to find it.

  4. Whew — you’re sewing up a storm these days!! I get that ‘two the same touching’ once in a while, too, but I figure it adds to the quirkiness 🙂
    How’s your frigid weather?

  5. This is by far the nicest string quilt that I have seen so far! I don’t see the problem with the greens at all–not even if I really look hard! Nice that it is a stash buster for you too! Feels good to see the stash go down, doesn’t it? Is this a top for the new BF template? Or are you going to try concentric circles on this one?

  6. Mary, that border is so perfect for the quilt. Those two green strips together — where in the string quilt rule book does it say you can’t do that? 🙂

That’s a beautiful, happy, cheerful quilt!

  7. Oh Mary, I’ve said it before and I will say it again, you have such wonderful color sense. When you showed that border fabric I didn’t think it would ever work, but you have proved me wrong. Your quilt is gorgeous and the colors dance. Beautiful!

  8. marvelous quilt, mary. definitely cheery. a new learning experience in pulling fabrics for these.

  9. Hi Mary,
I love the strings in the rectangle design…..makes for an interesting design! i would not worry too much about the greens matching up….you could call it “V for Victory” or “enVious” something like that! as though it was purely intentional! 🙂

  10. What a perfectly beautiful string quilt! I’ve got to say, I’ve fallen in love with these things! Yours is just gorgeous!

    Hugs

  11. Wow – that’s a bright one! It looks like it could almost glow in the dark! Someone is going to be so cheered by all those bright colors. Perfect use of the floral for the “idea fabric” and then the borders.

  12. Can you see those two strips of the same green fabric in the middle block on the bottom row?

NO & I keep looking – thank you very much, now I have an inner challenge to find the “problem.”

  13. Love it! Everything is controlled and looks like it was meant to be. I think I should try that …. choosing the border and then the colours. I don’t like a totally scrappy look – this is absolutely gorgeous.

  14. I concur with the group! GORGEOUS! I had to look about 3 times before I could find the greens touching. Hmmm what does that say about my powers of observation???

  15. Whoa! took my breath away! That truly is a stunning quilt! Someone is just going to love that one! You sure are on a roll lately! I think you just hooked a couple more people to string piecing. I’ve been doing my own, but may have to jump into the Heartstrings que too!
