Chesty injured his knee last night and I was panicking because he was supposed to go to the kennel today and they don’t take sick or injured dogs (and I wouldn’t want him there injured anyway!)
I was also concerned because he’d injured his other knee a couple years ago and had surgery on it. So first thing this morning we took him to the University of MN Vet ER and had him seen. Yes, he’d injured his knee but the ligament wasn’t torn completely and the vet recommended trying medical treatment first – crate rest for 2 weeks and anti-inflammatory medications.
I thought I was going to have to find an animal hospital that would board him or let Keith go on the cruise without me (have I mentioned we’re taking my sons and DIL and meeting his brother & family too so it’s not just US to consider)
Luckily, we’re going to be able to medically board Chesty this one time at the University and the ER Vet will manage his care while we’re gone. Of course, it’s going to cost us $800 and that’s if he doesn’t require any additional treatment or surgery but it’s worth it for my peace of mind.
On a side note, I did see the Cardiologist on Monday and they’re going to do further testing the Monday I get back from vacation. I’m beginning to wonder if this vacation is jinxed!
Just what you need huh? More stress! You are very lucky to have the Univ ER. We almost had to cancel a vacation once due to a similar problem. I looked up your ship and found out we are going to be in Skagway on the same day. I’ll be visiting the quilt shop there in the morning, have an excursion in the afternoon. I’ll look for you or wave to your ship!!! Small world huh?
Poor Chesty and you guys. I hope you are able to enjoy your cruise and I hope that Chesty is well when you return. What timing, huh?
So far so good… now let’s hope the treatment plan is effective.>>Enjoy your cruise!
Oh, Mary! I was ready to fly up there and sit with Chesty while you’re gone! Don’t say the vacation may be jinxed!! Glad you’re able to get in with the cardiologist when you get back. I hope everything else goes smoothly.
Poor Chesty – he’s hurt and his Mom is leaving him. $800!!!! Holy cow! I had no idea.
I’m so glad you found a place where you know Chesty will be taken care of. And since he needs crate rest for two weeks, he’ll wait for you!! Have a fun trip and enjoy the family!
Poor Chesty and poor you. Hopefully it will put your mind at rest knowing he’s getting the best medical care while you’re gone. Look at it this way – everything is happening BEFORE you leave so you’ll have ‘smooth sailing’ for your trip.
Oh Mary…i am so sorry about chesty…i hope you can enjoy your trip and not worry about your heart either. it stinks when life is so darn complicated!>hugs>laurie
I hope you are able to relax and enjoy your vacation despite the worries. Chesty will be well taken care of and we will miss you.
Chesty I am sure will be in good hands. Maybe even better than at home. You can love him and give him extra hugs when you get home. Amazing how much vet bills can be. Oh well, less fabric!>>Have a wonderful time. It sounds like a dream vacation. I will miss your blogs but know you are having fun.
Oh Mary, I’m so sorry. Poor Chesty. BUT, I sure hope you can have a good time on vacation, Chesty will be in a good place and have a good rest to be all better for you when you get home. I wish you all the best for your vacation and your dr. visit.
Bless your heart, what a way to start things off. Poor little buddy. I know this is stressful. Uh. It is good knowing he’s in a place that will TOTALLY give him the best care. That’s a fact! And the time away will do you some good, too, I’m sure of it. Prayers and Hugs, *karendianne/ < HREF="http://leehaven.blogspot.com/" REL="nofollow">Living Life at LeeHaven<>
Oh Man.. I am glad the university can take him – he will be in good care so you can relax. And we will be praying for him… AND you!!
Oh dear! I hope Chesty feels better soon – glad that you got his boarding arrangements settled. If I lived near you I would take care of him for you! I used to pet-sit ALL the time for people in San Fran and loved it! I stayed right at the peoples house while they were away so the pets wouldn’t be too disrupted… of course, this was way pre-Little Boy, LOL!!!>Try to relax and have a wonderful trip!>>Cheers!>Evelyn
Sorry to hear about Chesty, but it sounds like he will be in the best of hands. Don’t worry to much about him and have a wonderful time with your family. Take lots of pics to share with us.
