You will NOT believe this

Chesty injured his knee last night and I was panicking because he was supposed to go to the kennel today and they don’t take sick or injured dogs (and I wouldn’t want him there injured anyway!)

I was also concerned because he’d injured his other knee a couple years ago and had surgery on it. So first thing this morning we took him to the University of MN Vet ER and had him seen. Yes, he’d injured his knee but the ligament wasn’t torn completely and the vet recommended trying medical treatment first – crate rest for 2 weeks and anti-inflammatory medications.

I thought I was going to have to find an animal hospital that would board him or let Keith go on the cruise without me (have I mentioned we’re taking my sons and DIL and meeting his brother & family too so it’s not just US to consider)

Luckily, we’re going to be able to medically board Chesty this one time at the University and the ER Vet will manage his care while we’re gone. Of course, it’s going to cost us $800 and that’s if he doesn’t require any additional treatment or surgery but it’s worth it for my peace of mind.

On a side note, I did see the Cardiologist on Monday and they’re going to do further testing the Monday I get back from vacation. I’m beginning to wonder if this vacation is jinxed!

  1. Just what you need huh? More stress! You are very lucky to have the Univ ER. We almost had to cancel a vacation once due to a similar problem. I looked up your ship and found out we are going to be in Skagway on the same day. I’ll be visiting the quilt shop there in the morning, have an excursion in the afternoon. I’ll look for you or wave to your ship!!! Small world huh?

  2. Oh, Mary! I was ready to fly up there and sit with Chesty while you’re gone! Don’t say the vacation may be jinxed!! Glad you’re able to get in with the cardiologist when you get back. I hope everything else goes smoothly.

  3. I’m so glad you found a place where you know Chesty will be taken care of. And since he needs crate rest for two weeks, he’ll wait for you!! Have a fun trip and enjoy the family!

  4. Poor Chesty and poor you. Hopefully it will put your mind at rest knowing he’s getting the best medical care while you’re gone. Look at it this way – everything is happening BEFORE you leave so you’ll have ‘smooth sailing’ for your trip.

  11. Oh dear! I hope Chesty feels better soon – glad that you got his boarding arrangements settled. If I lived near you I would take care of him for you! I used to pet-sit ALL the time for people in San Fran and loved it! I stayed right at the peoples house while they were away so the pets wouldn’t be too disrupted… of course, this was way pre-Little Boy, LOL!!!Try to relax and have a wonderful trip!Cheers!Evelyn
