Goals

I know not everyone likes setting goals or keeping track of their progress with their quilting or knitting hobbies but it’s always been important to motivating and keeping me on track.

Half the year is over and all things considered, I’m happy with my progress. (There are some doll quilts included in the numbers so they don’t all represent larger projects.)

Goals – progress through Jun 30, 2018

  • 10 UFOs completed (goal 12)
  • 17 tops quilted (goal is one per week I’m not traveling and I’m just off by 1 so I should be able to catch up)
  • 14 new starts (5 are finished, 7 are finished tops, 2 are still in pieces)
  • 6 knit scarves for donation are finished (one is a UFO from last year) and #7 is in progress

  1. Goals and lists have always been my motivator. I set my goals each Sunday and write down what I want to accomplish during the week on each project. I always have a few projects going at the same time. Since I do other sewing besides quilts, I never precut scraps.

Reading yesterday’s and today’s posts, you are sounding so much better! Still praying for your complete recovery.

  2. Combining replies to your 2 posts –

As far as cutting scraps, I decided to become more organized and cut down anything shorter than 10″ into 1-1/2, 2, 2-1/2, 3, 3-1/2, 4, 4-1/2, and 5 inch squares. Whatever width was leftover longer than 10″, I cleaned up edges neatly to make a respective size strip width as above and put each specific size into drawers with the squares. I further sorted everything by color but kept them in their size drawer. (Hope this makes sense). This is a modified version of Bonnie Hunter’s scrap system. I plan on working on emptying these drawers before purchasing any further fabric. It is so much neater and easier to have so many squares and strips pre-cut.

I also am a goal person. I love to make lists and cross things off. So much satisfaction in realizing how much you have accomplished, especially at this halfway mark. Have definitely increased finishing my UFO, and no more plastic bags laying around! It also makes it easier to know what to start working on once something is completed.

Anyway, continued walking, sorting, cutting, sewing, knitting and relaxing!

  3. I think you are a person who likes having a measurable goal so go for it. Considering all that is happening in your life I am very impressed by your achievements!

  4. And within the drawer, separate light from dark. Really helps when the drawer is close to full!

  5. I’m a goal setter too, and when I don’t set them I don’t get much done at all. However, I’m also learning to not feel so bad if I don’t reach all of the goals.
