Dumb mistake

I hate making dumb mistakes but not so much that I’m going to pull the binding off and redo it! I like to cut my double fold binding strips 2.5 inches and use my regular sewing foot to sew a slightly larger than 1/4 inch seam when I’m sewing my binding on. I stitch it on the front of the quilt by machine and then handstitch it to the back.

Today after I finished the last stitch and rolled this one over, I realized I hadn’t remembered that I needed to sew this binding with a 1/4 inch seam so I wouldn’t cut the points off my block. How did that happen?! It’s a UFO that I pieced last year and normally I make a note on these and put it in with the binding … unfortunately, it’s one of the few tops that didn’t have binding cut when I finished piecing it so I didn’t remember. UGH! Overall, it doesn’t change the fact that it’s a cute quilt and will be donated and wrapped around a child in need of comfort but I do so hate making mistakes!

As you can see I went with the gray binding — after waffling back and forth between the turquoise and this one (the back is pink so I eliminated that one), I finally just cut the gray. It already has a label too. Designed on the Avery Label app and printed on Printed Treasure fabric sheets.

A full photo of the quilt will have to wait – Tampa is trying to earn it’s reputation as the lightening capital of the world right now.

  1. Haven’t you ever heard of the galloping horse rule??? If you don’t notice it as your galloping by on a horse, don’t worry about it. Some child will love that quilt!

  2. Ok, I had to read this three times while reviewing your picture before I understood what you meant 🙂 I love your grey binding with the pink back.

  3. I have several quilts that have points cut off, and it doesn’t bother me even a tiny bit. Love the grey binding with that bright pink backing.

  4. It’s going to be loved even without perfect points. I love that grey binding – looks great with the pink. Hope that lightning ends soon. Lightning freaks me out, along with high winds. We had a brief thunderstorm last night but the worst of it was east of us.

  5. I like every quilt I see.. My husband goes to shows with me and he figured if it is hanging it is pretty. I agree with him a lot. I can appreciate the time and money that goes into a masterpiece, and they are all masterpieces.
