I don’t think I’m going to make it to the history center this trip although it’s possible I might feel the urge to go in the next couple days but today after passing off the finished quilts to Bev, eating a lobster roll, and picking up the last 8 Happy Block tops to take home with me to finish, I drove by the cemetery where Keith’s great grandmother is buried. I haven’t been able to find his grandparents and now that I know their death dates and locations, I thought I might find them at this same cemetery (I didn’t).

I love walking around a cemetery and this one is beautiful especially in the fall.

I have a photograph of his great grandmother’s headstone from several years ago when I first found it but I took another today. Keith’s great-aunt is buried with her.

Since I wasn’t in a hurry, I spent some time taking photos of other graves with the BillionGraves app. Helping document cemeteries is an easy way to volunteer and you can  just take and upload the photos or you can take the photos and transcribe them. They have a neat graphic on the website that shows how many people have searched and looked at the records you’ve created in the last 12 months. It makes me feel good to know that I’ve helped others find family graves.

  1. Beautiful cemetery! I also like wandering around cemeteries and looking at headstones. Didn’t know about this app but what a great idea. I will download it.
