2019 Precut Party

Do you buy precuts? I’ve always had a thing for Fat Quarters and I’ve developed a Jelly Roll obsession too … mostly buying them but I do try to use them too. We’ve been talking about our precuts in my HeartStrings group and we decided that we are going to challenge ourselves to use more of our Precuts in 2019 but since we’re planning for it to be FUN rather than a chore, we’re calling it our 2019 Precut Party.

Each month Stephanie is going to chose a precut and we’re going to share ideas for using that precut and my goal is to make at least one top from the monthly precut. Stephanie had a great idea to also work on UFO’s from the chosen precut during the month too. There are no hard and fast rules … if you don’t have precuts, you can use stash, if you want to work with another precut rather than the chosen one, that’s good too.

Feel free to join in with us this year and use some of your precut stash too!

Most of these were bought in 2018 and I’ve got lots more tucked away in various locations. You can see I’ve already paired stash fabric with some of the precuts!

Stephanie announced a few days ago that January’s precut will be Charm Squares. Since I’ve got a lot going on this month — Mom is coming for a 4 week visit on Sunday and we’ll have some of her projects to work on, I’m also going to be doing a lot of quilting trying to get some of her tops done, a gift quilt that she pieced, and a top I pieced and promised I’d quilt it with a nice warm Minkee backing for her — I’m going to do one simple baby size top using these fabrics.

What’s your favorite Charm Squares pattern?!!

  1. Oh my goodness, just call me the queen of precuts. I love them and have so many of them, I’m almost ashamed!!

  2. I started quilting in the early 70s before rotary cutters and precuts but after my youngest started school I went back to teaching and the quilting frame and fabrics were packed away. When my first grandchild was born in 2007 I happened to go to a quilt shop with a friend and found precuts. What a great way to get back into quilting!! I’ve made a ton of quilts with charm squares but if I had to pick a favorite I think it would be the disappearing 9 patch.

  3. Beautiful collection of precuts and the idea of making quilts to use up the many is appealing. I may play in my world if you keep me alerted to the precut of the month. I have a few. This month would be better for mr if it were a jelly roll, but I will just do 2 quilts this month and push my envelop.

  4. I saw a you tube using charm packs for the jewel box 4 patches and half square triangles. Thought it a great idea but haven’t actually made it yet. Good idea to make it this month with the 4 packs I just bought. 👍

  5. I got the quilting bug in 2010 watching Jenny Doan videos! I have so many charm packs, jelly rolls and layer cakes packed away in a closet! Pre-cut party sounds good to me! Does Stephanie have a blog to follow?

  6. I plan to sew along on the precut party, at least for the winter. I have a few charm square packs, but also have an entire drawerful of charms cut from scraps.
