Doll quilts

I’d made a couple doll quilts in the past to give myself some small handwork projects but I didn’t really get into making them until we moved here to Tampa. I saw it as a way to use leftover bits or even blocks and end up with a piece of wall art, a quilt for one of my granddaughters’ dolls, or a donation. I also get to use up leftover pieces of batting and backings so I feel really frugal when I’m making one! (You can see a slide show of the full images by clicking on any photo.)

Do you make doll quilts?!

  1. Nope, no doll quilts. No pot holders, no wall quilts, no pin cushions, not much of anything but tons of large lap and queen size quilts. Starting a king size soon. Oh, I have made purses, but that’s not quilting. But now that I’ve seen your doll quilts, I think that might be a good thing to make.

  2. Beautiful. Great way to use up scraps, try a new pattern and end up with something useful!

  3. I’ve made a few doll quilts but think that they would make a better use of leftover blocks – instead of dropping them in a drawer to just hang out. Or instead of making more table runners with them.

  4. Your small quilts are adorable! Your fabrics always have such bright happy colours, its a good idea to use all the small “left overs”. I have never made a doll quilt, I use all my scraps for scrappy bedquilts, but I love yours!

  5. Good Morning Mary! I have made a few doll quilts, and donated them to A Doll Like Me. I love to make them for a variety of reasons. It’s a nice use for scraps, and it also allows me to practice some FMQ patterns. Yours are beautiful and I’ll bet they are received with lots of love. Happy Wednesday to you. ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. Love your doll quilts for the inspiration. I just mailed 2 doll quilts to A Doll Like Me. Such a great way to use leftover bits from a project and also practice quilting ideas. One of my classes in Houston this past Festival was domestic machine quilting and the teacher recommended this as a good way to try out quilting designs. I did just that! Looking forward to doing more.
