Blocks are made

This layer cake was a challenge to work with – half of it consisted of two light prints and I wasn’t sure I could come up with something I would like but the blocks are made and I think it’s going to make a cute donation quilt – and for $12.40 which is what I paid for the layer cake at Craftsy, it’s a bargain. The photo is dark because I finished the blocks up tonight after Keith went to bed.

I will say Layer Cakes are not my favorite precut to work with … I definitely prefer fat quarters and Jelly Rolls. I feel like I have so many more options for designing and using them.

  1. Very cute quilt!! Thanks for the link to the jambalaya recipe. It looks good and I am anxious to try it. I like layer cakes but sometimes I have found them not to be cut exactly right. That is irritating! Jenny Doan from Missouri Quilt Company has a lot of tutorials using layer cakes.

  2. I agree that layer cakes are hard to work with but they do go on really great sales. Your quilt is a very cute way to use a layer cake.

  3. I personally LOVE layer cakes (tho I like all precuts, truth be told)! I think there are just so many things you can make with them! I’m working on a layer cake quilt right now & while it’s not going so hot, that’s because I decided the fabric wasn’t really a good fit with the pattern I’m using. Moda Bake Shop has some FABULOUS patterns… try them!

  4. That background is great with those hourglass blocks. The quilt looks kind of soothing and calm.
