I love this vintage bow tie quilt I found last night on eBay. I want the Accuquilt GO 6 inch bow tie die but I have dies that I haven’t even used yet so I’m holding off for now.
I made this bow tie from a kit about 4 years ago and I thought it turned out really cute. It was donated.
I dislike the method of making triangles from using a square on a corner and trimming them so I wouldn’t make one using that method but this one was made by appliquing the center square on top of a 4 patch so I could always make another one that way.
I also made one from Charm Squares when Rae was little.
I have not managed to get the half Log Cabin top assembled yet. Maybe I’ll find some time tomorrow?! Or maybe Monday. I did finish the little yellow afghan and I’m going to start another one tonight.
Keith and I enjoyed our bike ride today – 10 miles along Bayshore to downtown and back. I’m glad he’s home! He travels a lot and I don’t mind his shorter trips (2-3 days) but I miss him when he’s gone a whole week.
so that ‘s how you made that polka-dotted bowtie. I have studied that quilt a thousand times and couldn’t figure it out. I never saw that the square was applicqueed! Thank you for this picture.
I have that kit in my stash. I tend to think its directions were to do the triangles on a corner method. It’s been quite a while since I read the directions, so don’t hold me to that. I’m not crazy about the triangles or applique. What I’d like is a pieced or paper-pieced version for that size square (maybe 6 inch?) that has a solid square piece in the center.
I love the pieced inner border on Rae’s little quilt! It really completes the quilt.
I have only made one bow tie quilt and I loved it. Your polka dots is amazing. The quilt I made was less scrappy than the last one and I found that i really would have appreciated the variation. Glad that you still love spending time with Keith! So many couples today don’t appreciate the wonder of just being together.
I don’t think I have ever seen a bow tie quilt, very, very cute!! Love how you appliquéd the polka dot square in the middle. Rae’s little quilt is also very cute! Another to add to my long lists of to do’s. Glad you had a good time on your bike ride. Looks like a very nice day. My husband is supposed to be retired but works on call. They call him more then he would like though. I would not like the travel at all. But you gotta do what you gotta do. One day he will retire and will be home with you all the time. Something to look forward to.
That is a very clever way to making the bowties. I’ve done the 3-D ones (time consuming) and the traditional ones, but just might have to try out your method.
I love that eBay quilt. I remember when you made the dotty one. That construction method is really clever.
