July Precut Party

This month we’re playing with half square triangles and after debating a while, I decided to make this quilt. I bought a kit from Craftsy several years ago and the kit is at Mom’s but I’ve got the pattern and a room full of fabric!

I did several searches for the quilt and only found it at Craftsy. I even found my invoice – I paid $33 for it. A good deal in my mind and if Mom isn’t going to make it, I’m going to get it back from her and make it in these fabrics too.

But for now, I searched the stash and pulled 5 fabrics. I could make it scrappier but it’s a busy month for me so I’m going to make it easy. I’m taking photos in the evening again so not the greatest – sorry!

I’ve had several discussions recently with blog readers about my Accuquilt Go asking if I use it a lot and the answer to that is YES! While I have some dies I haven’t used and some that have been only used a time or two, I have others that I’ve used a lot and my half square triangle dies probably get used most of all. I’m using my 6 inch finished HST die for this quilt so mine will be a slightly smaller than the one from the kit which is made from 10 inch squares (they get 4 triangles from (2) 10 inch squares).

It’s quick to cut with the GO and quick to sew. I’ve got 3 rows of blocks sewn already this evening.

  1. Wow! That is gonna be PURDY! I love those fabrics/colors… they look like Civil War reproductions (my favorites). I can’t wait to see how this one turns out!

  2. I am always tempted to buy the Accuquilt Go gadget but I don’t think I’d be able to handle the quilting involved with any more finished flimsies…. I am already behind in quilting what is basted and stacked in the closet. If I made more flimsies I’d be overloaded! (then I’d have to go buy a longarm!)

  3. It’s so funny that you posted about this quilt today. Yesterday I saw a picture of a quilt on Pinterest The Rabbit Hole that I think was this pattern but is primary colors.

  4. Hi Mary! Great pattern and kit, and the fabrics you pulled will make for a nice quilt top. I’ve been tempted to get the GO but so far have resisted. It seems like a good many quilters have the system though. ~smile~ Roseanne

  5. I made a quilt for a nephew’s wedding several years ago from a “turnover” pack of HST that I had bought. But I haven’t seen that type of pre-cut in stores in quite a while. So it makes a lot of sense to cut your own with the GO dies.

  6. I really like this quilt. I was gifted some HSTs that were cut off from someone’s project — beautiful batiks. I need to find a background fabric to go with them and do something with them. And, this would be perfect even though mine would end up smaller. I’m hoping I can get a 3″ finished square. Thanks for the inspiration. I tend to use some of my dies a lot and some — not so much. But when I get to crankin’ those dies through I can cut out a quilt in so little time!

  7. That will be a very pretty Fall quilt. Love the colors! Of course I love all Fall colors. I am so tempted to buy the Accuquilt Go but I just don’t know if I would get that much use out of it at my age. It is pretty spendy! Sure wish I had one though.
