He’s fine

My day didn’t go as planned … Keith overdid his workout this morning in the heat and ended up in the ER with dehydration and cramping. He’s really good about drinking but it’s HOT and he sweats a lot and just wasn’t able to keep up. He’s fine now but he’s been taking it easy since we got home.

I finished the mint green baby afghan last night and started a pink shell blanket so I worked on that while I watched the Tour on the iPad. That’s Keith napping under the green quilt in the background.

I’m using a really easy shell pattern I found free on Ravelry – Shell Stitch Baby Blanket.

Yarn is Lion Brand Big Scoop and I’m using an (H) hook.

  1. Hope Keith is feeling better soon!! That heat can really knock you out. I haven’t crocheted in years but seeing all of your finished afghans I think I’m ready to grab my hook again!

  2. So sorry to hear this about Keith. Proves that even the best of us taking good care of ourselves can be overcome with the heat. Glad he’s with you as he recovers.

Blessings to both of you, Kathy in WI

  3. Your afghan is very pretty. Hope your DH recovers soon and glad he’s home from ER. Scary.

    • Glad Keith is recovering! Heat isn’t something to mess with! Love the shell afghan! You are such an inspiration to keep completing projects…and starting new ones!

  4. Hope your DH is feeling better — more refreshed – this evening. Maybe he could recover under you new afghan?

  5. So sorry that happened to Keith but happy he is home and recovering. I really like shell afghans and your pink looks so pretty.

  6. Oh dear…so sorry. We all need to learn to do things differently in this heat. Dehydration sneaks up fast. Feel well soon, Keith. I can imagine how scary that was for you too.

  7. Florida heat and humidity is brutal. Hope that Keith will be feeling better soon. I like to use the cooling collars that I found at Lowe’s a few years ago. They really help to keep me refreshed. Hydrating with Gatorade, ice pops and plenty of water for me. A large floppy hat too. Enjoy your day.

  8. Heat scares me so much. The extreme heat this summer worries me every time Paul goes out to work. He is an example of huge fluid loss in heat. He has gotten in the habit of setting a timer so he will hydrate. He drinks lots of refills of his 24 ounce tumbler. It is so scary when he comes inside because his face is red and he is drippy. Just his way of working. I am sure Keith has similar habits but this summer is extreme and normal routines jus aren’t enough.

  9. MARY, did this happen in a gym or at your home gym in your complex. So sorry to hear this news. Hope he has rested today!

  10. Mary- Hope Keith is good as new! That was a scare for sure! Your latest afghan is lovely, as usual! Take care! : )

  11. I have taken Terry to the ER at least 3 times for being dehydrated. It lowers your blood pressure and can cause an embolism. Also he has kidney disease and must drink a MINIMUM of 2.5 liters a day. I have started keeping track of his intake on a calendar on the fridge. It’s easy to forget to drink enough when you are out in the heat at work or at play. Glad he’s OK. Your lovely crochet blankets are going to get the yarn out!!
    xx, Carol

  12. Oh dear! I’m so glad to hear he got to the emergency room and was helped. I worry that my husband will overdo it too and he always fights back when I suggest he slow down… He won’t like it if I have to drag him to an emergency room this summer!
