August Precut Party

Yes I still quilt too and while I’m probably not going to get my last August goal done before the end of the day, I did get a top loaded on the longarm and it’s ready for quilting.

Stephanie announced the Precut for August a few days ago. The choices were a Jelly Roll or 6 inch strips and after giving it some thought … I decided I’d get one of my UFOs to the finished top stage.

Mom and I worked on two quilts while she was here in January – actually we worked on a lot more than two but we were both making 9 patch quilts with hearts. The 9 patch blocks were all pieced from Connecting Threads 2.5 inch strip bundles and the hearts were cut from leftover fabric too. (I’d already made two quilts from this group of fabrics I’d purchased but there was plenty leftover for two more!)

Mom’s top has been done for months and is waiting for me to quilt and she took all my Hearts home with her to appliqué them for me!

Here’s Mom’s top … hers has borders but mine will not.

I put all my blocks up on the design wall and I’ll start working on assembling it this week. You know me… that will take a while so I don’t really expect to have it done before I travel again next Tuesday but assembling it will be on my list of goals for August.

These quilts were inspired by a vintage one I found on eBay, you know how much inspiration I find in old quilts!

  1. Well, yours is very pretty. Takes awhile to sew all those together. I’m trying to see a king size quilt on point that has sashing and cornerstones. It’s very weird but I picked up a quilt book and in the middle of the book it tells how to do it, still very tricky 🤨, but my goal for tomorrow is to get the corner pieces sewed and hopefully tackle sewing all the rows together. Hope is my word for this year!

  2. So pretty! How nice that you and your mother can collaborate and both end up with some pretty spectacular quilts! What a great way to keep hands and hearts together!

  3. I love that quilt!! Since I don’t appliqué I will need to make a heart another way, or learn to appliqué. Very pretty!!!

  4. OK, how stinkin’ cute is this? You know i’m a sucker for “9 Patch” & scrappy so this one is right up my alley… I love it! WTG!

  5. I’m amazed at how much you accomplish, especially thru the summer. I can accomplish twice as much in the winter. Summer is so busy with other distractions.

  6. I have enjoyed seeing your collaboration with your mom over the years! Love the heart blocks, even though I don’t enjoy applique. Your ability to quilt and crochet in the same time period is interesting to me, since I go all out for one thing (whether reading, crocheting, quilting, or TV series) for a period of time and then go back to one of my other hobbies for awhile. Since my quilting is mostly hand piecing, I haven’t done any since I started crocheting in April. I do have some good-sized UFOs that I need to get back to, one of these days.
