2019 in books

Here are some stats I don’t even have to keep … I use GoodReads to track the books I’ve read or want to read and since most of my reading is done on the Kindle and it’s linked to GoodReads it automatically updates when i finish or start a book. They summarized my reading for the year for me.

I don’t take the time to write reviews but I do rate the books … almost everything gets a 3 unless it is terrible or wonderful and then they usually get a 2 or 4. It’s rare that I read a book and give it a 5 but to me, a 3 star rated book is worth reading. If you’re ever interested in seeing what I’m reading… there’s a link on the right sidebar called “what I’m reading” which will take you to GoodReads.

Do you know how many books you read last year?!

  1. Oh, I LOVE “Goodreads”, don’t you? But I’m such a nut… I never think to review or rate the quilting books I look at… just the “books” I read. You’ve been on a tear with your reading. And quilting. And crocheting. No wonder you’re sick… you need to SLEEP! LOL!

  2. I wound up reading/listening to 104 books this past year. The most ever-I have a list going since 1961. Always amazing to me its gone on that long ( and ME too!). I listen to books in the middle of the night when I can’t sleep and in the car.

  3. Approx 100 audio books, mostly whilst sewing. I never want to stop sewing when listening to a good book 🙂

  4. I have no clue how many books I’ve read or listened. The one book that I’m amazed at right now is “The Help”. It takes place in my timeline so I’m really aware of what happened during that 1963 era. I saw the movie but they left out so much. So far, this book is a 10.

    • Hedy, you might want to listen to the audio version of The Help. It’s fantastic! A friend & I listened to it on a cross-country trip and the miles just flew by. (Except when we were crossing Texas. Texas takes FOREVER to get across!)

  5. Hi Mary! I use Goodreads, too. My stats say 103 books and 34,067 pages. I hope you’re feeling a bit better today. Ugg, what a way to start the new year – but now you have that out of the way early. {{Hugs}} ~smile~ Roseanne

  6. I read around 40 books last year. I don’t read fast, and frequently fall asleep and have to back-track the next time I pick up my book! I read a suggestion recently to try reading first thing in the morning instead of only at night. It’s a great way to start my day.

  7. Hmm. I’ll have to go check my Goodreads. I didn’t know about the stats summary… I do most of my audio book reading while I’m out walking. My rating is usually a three or a four. If I don’t like something then I’ll give it a 2 and if I didn’t even finish the book, usually something offensive or a sad animal story in the book, then I give it a 1. An occasional 5 is like a discovered Easter egg!

  8. —I, too, keep a list = 6 books in 2019 (all nonfiction as it turned out): The Search for God at Harvard; Embracing Life Again; Open House; Standing in the Fire; Where God Begins to Be – A Woman’s Journey into Solitude; and Thanks for the Mammogram! – Fighting Cancer with Faith, Hope, and a Healthy Dose of Laughter.
—I don’t use audio books and I count only the books read in their entirety. So, the following didn’t make “The List” even though I read huge chunks of them: Breast Cancer Treatment Handbook; and Just Get Me Through This! – A Practical Guide to Coping with Breast Cancer.
—I love books and I love your blog!
