We decided we’d play with precuts again this year. Here’s the list and Stephanie will pull one out of the hat each month. There’s always the option to just choose whatever precut you’d like to work on too.

January’s precut is bundles and I had leftover fat quarters from the Hunter Star quilt that Mom and I pieced that I wanted to use up so I cut a bunch of tumblers. Add in some fabric from stash and I’m ready to toss them up on the design wall. I could be more random but there are a lot of repeats and I want to make sure I distribute them throughout the quilt.
It’s going to be busy but I love busy scrap quilts.
Love the colour combinations of your fabrics – busy enough to make the quilt bright and cheerful without being “in your face”!
A question & a comment. So for January, we use a whole bundle? That’s fine with me… I have several that I need to get going for quilts for next Christmas but I just wanted to make sure. Now, does it have to be all completely completed by the end of January? Once again, just checking (is there a place where “the rules” are posted so I don’t have to keep pestering you about this?). Will the selections come out every month or will we know they full calendar year at once? Sorry about all the questions.. I just want to do it right.
As for the comments, there’s also a tiny question in there, too. My comment is WOW – – I LOVE your “Tumblers”. I love, love, love the colors/fabrics & also wondered how you got them with trimmed corners. But my real question was, when can I swing by when you’re not home & swipe them off your wall to bring to my house? LOL! Yep… you’re really singing my song with this quilt, Mary! I cannot wait to see it all done!

I love scrappy quilts because they have texture and interest. To my eye, overly coordinated quilts are bland.
I love scrappy quilts too! I got that die in my new Go Baby I just bought. Cut an entire charm pack with it and have no idea what I will do with them. Might be a good project for my granddaughter who has suddenly shown an interest in sewing. So far she has made a rag quilt and is now working on a panel quilt. Both pretty easy projects. A tumbler quilt will be a step up I think. Thanks for the idea!!
I have the tumbler die, too, and cut a bunch with it a few years ago. When I started sewing them together, though, I realized I’d cut too many of the same fabrics, and didn’t have enough variety. I’ve sewn a row together, and stopped because I was so distressed by my error. Would anyone be interested in swapping some Civil War reproduction tumblers with me?
