House Arrest?!

I like being at home and sewing but we also like getting out to walk, bike, and eat out at restaurants. I’m a little worried about what may be coming on Monday.

TAMPA — Mayor Jane Castor warned residents on Saturday to brace for an impending “stay-at-home order” in the coming days. If Gov. Ron DeSantis doesn’t issue a statewide order, then one may come from Hillsborough County leaders. “It will be soon, I would be surprised if it’s not by Monday,” Castor told reporters Saturday. “Time is of the essence.”

We got out today for a bike ride and then believe it or not we went swimming. It’s been in the high 80’s all week but it’s never warm enough in March for me to swim … except it was today. You can see there are still a lot of people out and about on Bayshore … that will end if they issue a Stay-at-home order.

  1. Hi Mary! It looks like a beautiful day for a bike ride. I work in Illinois and they have a stay-home order in place, so I can’t go into work. My niece is a nurse and she said it is really needed for the 18 to 50 year-olds who think they can’t get sick or spread it. I can’t wait for this to be over. {{Hugs}} stay healthy and safe. ~smile~ Roseanne

  2. I live near St Louis in Illinois and we can only go to grocery and pharmacy. Not a big problem yet. We can drive somewhere and view the sights, get takeout or home delivery, take a walk. But we do social distancing, a new word in our vocabulary. My hubby is catching up with yard work even though it’s really chilly outside and I quilt every day. This past Tuesday the US had 13,000 cases of this virus and the Tuesday before that was only a few hundred. If we don’t isolate, this virus will go nuts.

  3. I’m in Los Angeles, under two stay-at-home orders (county and state). If the order there turns out to be like both of our’s, you’ll still be able to go outside and bike and walk, etc. You’ll just have to stay 6 feet away from other people. Restaurants will have to close their dining rooms but take-out and delivery will still be options.

  4. I live in Los Angeles and am under both a county and state stay-at-home order. We can still go outside to walk, bike, hike, or whatever. We just have to stay 6 feet away from other people. Restaurants have had to close their dining rooms but take-out and delivery are both still available (and encouraged to help the businesses).

  5. On Facebook this morning, I watched a 12m video by a woman in Italy. They are now allowed only 200 meters from home. They must complete a questionnaire prior to leaving home and carry it with them stating name, address, destination, purpose. It’s horrid! She cried near the end.

  6. House arrest will work no better than social distancing. It all depends on people doing what is necessary and some are more important than that!.

  7. Here in WA we are also supposed to stay home but there are still too many people out and about. Some of the hiking trails are loaded with people and that is not safe. Our numbers keep climbing but the younger generation just doesn’t get it. Very disturbing. I have gone to the grocery store but the last trip I made a couple of days ago I bought enough to last for hopefully 2 to 3 weeks. Since my husband and I are in our 70’s we need to be extra careful. No family contact is the hardest for me. No dinners together or celebrations. I just don’t want to take any chances. I am in a sewing funk right now and going to try to bust out of that today. I have so much to get done. Take care!!

  8. We haven’t come to that yet, but i’m sure it will come! Hopefully it will be the only way to slow this virus down. I guess we have to do what we can to protect ourselves. Better to be inside quilting , than to take any chances!! 0x

  9. We have the order to stay in and it’s pretty much like everyone else’s. But you SHOULD get out and get fresh air walking and riding you bike. Just don’t stop in public places or touch surfaces in public places. Keep distance from others. Please be safe and stay well. And stitch.
    xx, Carol

  10. For me it has been the not eating out that is hard to get used to. I’ve always appreciated the relief of going out for lunch or dinner but nowadays I’m cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner and it is getting old already! So spoiled I’ve been!
