Sick

So I’ve been sick for a week and a half and haven’t mentioned it here because I wasn’t sure what I was dealing with. I’ve been struggling with allergies for a couple months and developed a sore throat and a cough … I debated whether the new symptoms were from the allergies, sinus related, or a cold developing. After 3 days and with our return to Florida approaching, Keith and I decided we needed to rule out COVID 19 even though I was positive it wasn’t. It just wouldn’t be safe to travel. So I called the Health Department a week ago and went to a drive through testing site last Thursday morning. They called me today to tell me I was negative for COVID 19. After a week of not going anywhere I’m looking forward to going with Keith on an easy hike or two before we leave.

My symptoms eventually developed into a full blown cold and now I’m dealing with the residual cough and a sinus infection. Because most sinus infections are viral I’m waiting it out a bit before calling the Dr but if it doesn’t clear up this week, I’ll be calling for an antibiotic.

Without testing, I would have had to stay inside for much longer And it wouldn’t have been safe to travel home so I’m grateful they had expanded their testing here in North GA to anyone with symptoms along with Healthcare workers and first responders. I’m OK with not being able to go out shopping or to restaurants but I’ve missed being able to hike and of course when we get home we’ll be back on the bikes too. By the way, restaurants and shops have opened back up both here and in Florida but Keith and I both think it’s too soon and are going to wait it out a bit.

  1. Mary, I’m so glad to hear you are OK for COVID19. I suffer from allergies too and it seems the pollen counts are unusually high and for longer periods of time. Here in Wisconsin, it is taking forever for trees to leaf out! Safe travels to FL.

  2. Good to hear that your struggles are with a simpler issue. I guess we all have a fear of finding ourselves with a positive test result , when the similar symptoms develop. Thankfully that is not the case. Hope the symptoms clear soon, and that you will be able to enjoy the upcoming weeks

  3. Good to hear that you tested negative. My allergies so often turn into a sinus infection. I was miserable last week but we’ve had a little rain and I think it knocked down the pollen a bit. Get well so you can enjoy the hiking and biking.

  4. That must have been so frightening especially since your family was with you last week. So glad you had the test and know it is negative. Get well soon!!

  5. So good that your symptoms weren’t anything that became serious! It is easy to think that every sniffle or cough of mine or anyone else’s might be Covid 19

  6. I’m glad to hear that your test came back negative! I am nervous about places opening up too soon also so my hubby and I are staying put for a while longer as well. Stay safe and enjoy your hikes!

  7. Glad it wasn’t the C virus, Mary. Colds are no fun. But, you know you’ll get better. And soon, I hope.
