I want to make a big quilt … something that’s about 105 x 115 or so to fit a king size bed but I can’t decide on a pattern. I need to love it if I’m going to stick with it. I’ve think I’ve narrowed my fabric choices down to two … this first would make a pretty scrappy blue and neutral quilt and I’ve got tons of the fabric thanks to BluPrint sales
But I also have a couple big fat quarters bundles that can be paired with lights from stash.
I still have no idea what I’m going make or when I might start it but at least I have two sets of fabric to chose from and I’m looking at a lot of quilts … from my site, from eBay, and from Pinterest. Hopefully I’ll find something I love that works with one of these two.
Today’s progress – #6 is bound, quilt #7 has the binding on and is ready for me to hand stitch down tonight, I’ve started assembling the HeartStrings blocks, and top #9 of 10 is loaded on the longarm.
I have a blue bundle waiting for a king too! Anxious to see what you decide.
Nice progress on your Tampa goals, Mary! Good luck with finding a pattern that will hold your interest. Both sets of fabric are gorgeous and the high contrast of the earthy set would lend itself to SEW many patterns!
Totally understand how you need to love it! My local guild just handed out anew mystery pattern. 34 blocks. OMG, that is a lot for this girl when they are all the same. I will persist. Looking forward to seeing your pattern choice. The neutrals and blues are beautiful!

When I saw your colour palette for the king size quilt my first thought was, why not the ‘Shakespeare in the Park’ pattern by Judy Martin from her book The creative pattern book: complete patterns, intriguing ideas and musings on the creative process (2000). It is a Virginia Reel block with a star superimposed in the centre. Lots of examples on Pinterest. Of course it is on my own bucket list so I am prejudiced! You are powering through that Tampa To Do list.
I’m in the same boat. I have a FQ Bundle of Midwinter Reds by Minnick & Simpson that I’ve been holding onto forever to find the perfect pattern. I’m painting our bedroom in the new house over Labor Day weekend and I want to make a quilt for our bed with them, so now I have to come up with something but can’t make a decision! choosing the fabric is always the toughest part i think….im partial to blues so i vote for them…
Just an idea but I love Shakespeare in the Park by Judy Martin. I love that quilt but I don’t have the skills yet to make it, but I would love to watch you make it. Those fat quarter bundles are just crying out for this quilt. Now, I have just read the comments and I see that Anne has the same idea. Perhaps it’s calling you.
You might like this pattern. This is one that I made for my daughter, who has a king sized bed.

I love the blues with neutrals you are debating on. I have been digging out fabric I bought just because I liked it. I had a layer cakes of greens in batik I bought years ago. I sliced them into 5″ squares and am making a four patch lattice out of them. I will give it as a gift for a housewarming, Your Chesty pictures are adorable. Finn is a cutie too.

I love the blue and cream. I made a quilt with those colors for our bed a few years back. It is still my favorite quilt and I am not especially a lover of blue. It has to be the perfect shade and I love what you have picked out.
