Anniversaries

As December 2020 comes to an end, I celebrate a couple of anniversaries.

First, it is HeartStrings’ 14th anniversary. It’s hard to believe it was that long ago that a group of like minded quilters started working on a project to make and donate quilts using our leftover strips and strings and what was intended to be a short term project extended into the permanent group we are today. It’s one of the important things in my life that gives me purpose and a feeling that I make a difference.

These are just a few of the string quilts I have made and donated over the years I’ve been a part of the HeartStrings Quilt Project. I love how different they can all look and that they use those leftover bits and pieces that many throw or give away.

The second anniversary this month is my 15th year blogging! That’s 15 years of documenting my quilting progress, my travels, my family, and other interests. I’m grateful to those of you that come to visit and have become friends and I love sharing our quilting and other interests.

In case you’re wondering this is what Keith and I looked like 15 years ago (it was taken a few months after I started blogging).

And finally, all the talk of anniversaries made me realize I’d let an important one slip by in August – it was my 20th anniversary as a quilter. Here’s hoping I have 20+++ years left to quilt!

  1. So many great achievements to celebrate. Thanks for sharing your journey in quilting. Your patterns and posts have been a big plus in my quilting world. Happy New Year Hoping that 2021 will bring more success and happiness to you and/or family.

  2. Congratulations Mary on your several milestones! I’m especially happy that you are a blogger as I have so enjoyed your daily posts. For some reason I don’t get them daily but eventually I get most of them. The picture of you and Keith are great, neither one of you have changed much at all. Keep on doing what you are good at doing, it makes you life very enriching.

  3. Congratulations on all of those anniversaries. My blog will be 13 years old in May. Time has sure flown by. You and Keith haven’t aged much at all in 15 years!! Here’s to many, many more years of quilting and blogging!!!

  4. I don’t have a blog but I enjoy reading yours and seeing all the lovely photo’s you share of your family and all your creations. Well done on all the beautiful quilts you’ve made for your charity – I’m sure you’ve made a lot of people feel happy and loved when they received them. All the best for a safe New Year 2021.

  5. My heartfelt congratulations on all of these events. I enjoy your blog and the quilts shown have already given me some inspiration. I am always happy about the posts. I also really enjoy seeing different color schemes. I mostly use the same color direction myself and would not trust myself to some other combinations. But then I see how great it turns out and I have already gained a lot of courage to try different things. I wish you a lot of courage and strength beyond the New Year to continue to pursue your calling at Heartstrings and in the family, even where things are sometimes not easy. Since my English is not that good, I write through a translator and hope that everything is translated as I mean it and that you can understand it well. I also thank you for your generosity in passing on your quilting patterns.

    Many greetings
    Guilitta

  6. Congratulations! The picture of you both could have been taken today, neither of you have changed. May you have many more anniversaries 🙂 I started following your blog when I started quilting 12 years ago and always look forward to reading it.

  7. Those string quilts are so pretty and I’m sure you and your group have made many people very happy. I am not sure how I found your blog but I have really enjoyed reading about your crafts and your family. Funny how time flies without us realizing it. I was just thinking yesterday about how long I have been quilting. I was thinking about 4 yrs but it has actually been about 10 yrs. Time flies by and it seems like the older I get the faster it goes. You and Keith age well! Great picture! Happy New Year and lets hope we have a much better 2021!

  8. Mary,
