Ugh!

I found a small section at the edge of Sue’s quilt that had tension issues and loops on the back as I was binding it today – I ripped the binding back partway, ripped the stitches out, loaded it back on the longarm with a combination of pins and bike clips to get to the section I needed and restitched it freehand. Luckily, it was an easy pantograph (Dollop) otherwise it would have been a pain trying to line up the panto and restitch it. I managed to restitch that section and get the binding on and I will hand sew it down tonight but I didn’t get the 2nd binding on. That will have to wait for tomorrow.

As I was making more strips and strings log cabin blocks today I was wishing I had a machine set up just to work on string blocks … not sure if I can manage that here or at Big Canoe but you’d think with 4 sewing machines between the two places I could find a way.

  1. I keep trying to figure out how to have 2 machines set up. My room isn’t tiny, but with a cutting table, ironing table and sewing table, room is tight. There are so many good uses for having more than 1 machine ready to go!

  2. I feel your pain. I hate having to rip out stitching.I have my sewing machine and my serger set up, but I would really like to have my other sewing machine set up too. I just don’t have room for it in my small sewing room. I also have my mom’s old black 66 Singer sewing machine with cabinet that’s over 70 years old that I would also like to use. So many machines so little room.

  3. You need to clone yourself. Sorry about the quilting problem. I have always wondered what a quilter would do if stitches went wonky all of a sudden. That would not be fun picking out those stitches!!

  4. Argh.. frog stitching always takes longer to remove than it did to stitch in the first place. Good thing you spotted it.

  5. I’m working on the same issue for paper-piecing: I’d love to have one of my mechanical machines set up just for that, and another, newer machine for other stuff. The quilter’s dilemma!

  6. When you have this one bound can you please hold it up ,
I want to see the overall quilt so I can look at the pattern .
It looks a bit different than most with the variation of the strip lengths.
    Thanks Mary .
