National Quilting Day

Did you have a quilty day? I was able to spend some time in the sewing room this afternoon working on binding and I started assembling the twisted pinwheel top. I hope to finish that up this week. Now I’m going to settle in my chair and hand stitch a binding.

I also started looking at and pulling some potential fabric groups for several 3 yard quilts. My HeartStrings group is going to work on some for donation over the next few months and the timing is perfect because most of my kids quilts have been finished and donated recently and I have none in the pipeline. Many of us will be using patterns from Fabric Cafe AND my Quick Strippie qualifies too so you know I’ll end up making a few of those too. I think my first one will probably be made according to the Town Square pattern – Stephanie has made several of them and they turn out cute.

While I was pulling fabric I looked for some yardage that might work for another Walk and Stop quilt. I’d already set aside a fat quarter bundle and I can’t decide if a light background will work for me. I had given Mom one of the Connecting Thread kits and hers had a light background so I went back and searched on the blog, knowing I had a photo from when I quilted it for her. Don’t get confused if you see me call these Stop and Go quilts – for some reason, that’s the name that sticks in my head.

Her background is more patterned than the gray I was thinking about using so I might need to think about it and look some more through my stash.

At any rate I’m not ready to start anything yet – I’ve got 2 more to quilt and 3 to bind to finish up my quilting marathon and I have to finish that twisted Pinwheel top too!

  1. Happy National Quilting Day! My quilt group met in the library meeting room for an all day sewing event. We used the Fabric Cafe three yard patterns. Mine was the Town Square pattern. I’m a little bummed that I didn’t notice that my focus fabric was actually directional and not just a floral pattern with the flowers scattered all over, but it will do. I’m not completely tearing most of the blocks apart to change it. We had a great time and talked about needing to do sewing days more often.

  2. The light background looks really nice. I love that grey with the bundle. Looks like there’s enough in that stack to make at least four!

  3. As a school crossing guard.. I just might need toake myself one of those Stop 🛑 and Walk🚸 quilts!

  4. Mary, Do you have instructions for Stop & Go quilt? I couldn’t find them on your website by putting in those words. Thanks

  5. Love your fabrics as always. The quilt of your Mom’s is so pretty. And no, I didn’t participate in any quilting. My mind is on remodeling our house, slow as it is.

  6. Wow! You’ve been busy. I love the Walk and Stop pattern and the fabrics you have chosen. Sounds like you’ll have fun putting more quilts together. Can’t wait to see the pinwheel quilt finished.
Since we had a nice day here in WI, I spent it outside enjoying it.

  7. I also looked for the pattern for the Walk and Stop quilt. Is it your pattern? Do you know where it is available? Thanks!! You always get an amazing amount of work done. Always inspirational.

    • It looks like it was a kit from Connecting Threads. It’s still listed on their website, but is unavailable.
