Strings

I played in my strings today! Luckily, I easily found the Log Cabin Heart Blocks I’d started and the string bins. That makes me feel good about being able to find what I need in what I’m now calling the Bin Nook! All set up and ready to sew!

But before I started, I decided to pin baste one of the doll quilts. I’ve got 5 waiting for quilting and they count on my UFO list even though they’re small projects so it’s time to get some of them finished. I just love the view out my sewing room windows! I feel like I’m in a tree house here which makes me very happy.

I’m going to machine quilt this one on the Jane … and speaking of Jane, I get a lot of questions about her. Jane is a Babylock machine and the “model” is called Jane … see, her name is right there! You can’t tell in the first photo but that machine is also a Babylock and her name is Grace.

I made good progress today and I have 26 of the 35 blocks done (not all made today!!) for this version of my Log Cabin Hearts. I use leftover strips and strings to frame the heart blocks and this is the 2nd one I’ve made. Mom appliqued this set of hearts for me but she wasn’t happy about it. She thought they were too busy and agreed to do a second set if I let her put them on neutral backgrounds. The first one I made had scrappy red hearts on neutral backgrounds. I’ve gone back and forth about this quilt – yes, it’s a busier scrappy quilt but I still think I’m going to love it when it’s done.

They come tomorrow to set up my longarm! I’m thinking I can get the last of these blocks pieced while they’re working.

  1. I love all the bright colours. A *heart* quilt is on my ‘to do someday’ list haha 🙂

  2. The colors just pops on the heart quilt. Really like it. The long arm looks like it’s in the perfect spot!! That’s quite a machine! It’s good you could get right back to your quilt making again. xo

  3. I love, love your scrappy heart quilt!! I am seeing more and more of these scrappy type quilts and I am going to do more in my quilts. I love the look, so cheerful! Yes, your view is wonderful! I love to open my window in my sewing room on nice days and get some fresh air and listen birds chirping and singing. It is so calming!!
