Yarn

We’re having a quiet holiday weekend around here. Still working on getting things organized and today I tackled the yarn bins. I knew I wanted to get some of them out of the nook and behind the longarm but I wasn’t really sure how I wanted to sort them until I started pulling the bins out and looking at the contents.

In Tampa, I’d sorted almost all the yarn into bins by how I use it – Blanket yarn, hat yarn, and scarf yarn. It turns out that moving all the blanket yarn to the longarm room was what I needed to do. There are 25 various size bins of it. I’m always working on a knit or crochet blanket so I’m not concerned about my ability to use all the yarn … as long as I stop buying more of it which shouldn’t be a problem at least in the short term because I have lots of blanket I want to make with the yarn I already have. It’s not pretty but I can get to everything.

Most of the bins are stacked along the back wall but there are a few under the longarm too.

The hat and scarf yarns are staying in the nook. Some of these bins are hats, scarves, and blankets waiting to be donated. I need to take care of that by the fall. The smaller bins are projects I’d started and set aside. I need to decide which ones I’m going to finish and which ones I’m not.

  1. Ugh! I need to reorganize my yarn. Last night I sorted out 27 skeins to give away. I scheduled a visit with a friend who runs a charity knit program for tomorrow. I’m so happy to lighten the load just a bit!

  2. Wow, you definitely have a lot of yarn. You need to teach your little granddaughters to knit or crochet to help you empty all those bins. At least you have it all organized. I donated or gifted most of my yarn. I am now only buying when I want to do a project. I don’t have the room you have so that limits me, thank goodness. Same with fabric, I am maxed out right now. Sad because there are sooooo many fabrics I would love to buy right now.

  3. Such pretty colors! I like clear bins the best because I can more easily find what I’m looking for. And smaller bins that I can more easily pick up and move around. Congrats on getting organized!
