With the move I’m behind on our HeartStrings Precut Challenge. Stephanie pulls something out of the hat each month and we either piece a project or quilt a top using the assigned precut OR we always have the option to substitute another precut. I didn’t get anything done for May yet – Charm Squares and this month is Layer Cakes or big squares … There’s a layer cake in a kit somewhere but I’m not going to dig it out so I thought I’d do one of the 3 yard quilts with big squares but I was looking through some old photos and came across this quilt I’d made in the first year I was quilting and thought I’d re-make this one.

Since I can’t remember the size or details, I quickly drew it up in EQ7. Looking at the fabric estimates, I’ll be close to 1 yard for each of the 3 fabric minus the binding but I have extra of all 3 fabrics. Funny that I’m planning to remake this one after 20 years and I’m going to use whale fabric again too!
- Quilt size will be 46.5 x 60.5
- I’m going to cut my focus fabric squares 10 inches and they’ll finish at 9.5 inches
- I’ll cut strips for the sashing and nine patches 2 inches.

A perfect pattern for showing off a fun or beautiful piece of fabric, without cutting it into small pieces.
The pattern mght be an oldie but it is a good pattern worth repeating
This pattern always looks great no matter what focus fabrics are used.
Nicely done, being your first quilt ever! I love the blues and I love that all the blocks are the same. Can’t wait to see the new version.
