Simple

None of my quilts are all that complicated but the last few months most of them have been very, very simple. When you think about it, simple piecing with cute fabrics probably end up as favorites versus the kind of super scrappy quilt that I prefer for myself anyway (not that I’m going to stop making and donating those too!). The sashed Whales are ready to be assembled but I won’t get to it until Adam and the kids leave in a few days.

  1. I sure feel more comfortable using a simple quilt. I never had a quilt in my life until I was over 60 years old. This quilt has a good color to it, I really like it.

  2. A simple design lets the fabric shine! Your quilt is “just enough”, with the sashing serving to highlight that beautiful whale fabric. It is obvious that you put effort into it, but did not overwhelm the whales.

I don’t comment on most of your posts, but do want you to know how much I enjoy your posts about your quilting journey and your family activities. Thank you for sharing and inspiring!

  3. I LOVE the fish swimming around in the large squares! They give the quilt such movement. Awesome colors!

  4. I am always inspired by your quilts. I use your idea to make simple strip quilts from flannel in a baby size to donate to the Linus Project. I have donated 25 in the last 12 months and probably half of them are the strip quilts with simple machine quilting.

  5. Talk about simple making a great statement! I really like how the sashing sets off the whales. You come up with some great patterns. I’m wondering what fabric I can use to make a top like this.

  6. That sashing is perfect to set off the bigger print of the squares. Just fancy enough, but not overly fussy. Love it!!

  7. I have some fish fabric that I bought to make something for Chris. I’ve had it 2 years and it’s time I did something with it. This would be perfect! I think I could make this start to finish the week that he goes hunting in Nebraska in November.
