Never again!! My longarm table is just barely large enough to do a smallish king size quilt assuming you don’t need a pillow tuck … but it’s a pain in the butt. I still want to make another king size quilt or two for myself but this is the last one I’m doing for anyone else.

I’m using wide muslin for the back and had to piece the batting which should be long enough but sometimes more than you think will be taken up as you roll. If that happens, I’ll end up adding more and hand stitching it together with a herringbone stitch. I will also have to be very careful on the left side of the quilt because there’s one place where my horizontal magnet hits the table if it goes over too far.

I’ve decided that for my quilts when I eventually do them, I’ll piece and quilt the top without borders and then quilt the borders separately and attach them in the “quilt as you go” way. Years ago I had this book and it described how to join the sections … it was donated in one of my many moves but I found a used copy from Amazon and ordered it…. Not that I’ll be in the mood to do another large one anytime soon!

I will be doing a simple pantograph and quilting this over several days. I’m not at the point with my back that I can stand at the machine and quilt for long periods. I have an appointment with the neurosurgeon tomorrow and hope to find out what my options are to resolve the spinal nerve compression issues I continue to have.
