Hat #27

Pattern is Lindsay Hat found free on Ravelry at this link.

I both like and dislike this pattern and I might not make it again although I’ve said that several times before. The purl ridges do not line up in the back of hat when knit according to the pattern so I tried a method used in knitting jog-less stripes and it does line up a little better … not perfect but better.

I try not to whine about my health too much on the blog – I know I’m luckier than many people but these last few months have been quite the challenge and I’m tired of all the medical appointments/scans/procedures etc … unfortunately my surgery that was scheduled for Monday was postponed today at the last minute and I’ve got more testing ahead before I am cleared for surgery. It’s been tentatively rescheduled for mid January. Things could be a lot worse so I’ll distract myself with sewing, knitting, and crochet and try not to let it all get me down. Thank you all for your messages wishing me well through this process.

  1. I am so sorry that the surgery has been delayed. Hopefully you will be cleared soon. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Try to have a good holiday.

  2. I’m sorry you won’t be getting relief sooner. I hope you’re able to get through the next few weeks with little pain and much joy. You certainly bring me happiness in your delightful and helpful posts. Hang in there. There’s light at the end!

  3. Mary, I’m sorry you have to go through all this testing, procedures, scans, you name it. I sympathize with all you are going through. I will keep you and your family in my prayers. For the last 6 years I have been through similar problems. Diagnosed with lung cancer, 4 years of chemo and immunotherapy since having to be taken off of chemo due to it causing my kidneys to fail. I’m much better now but all the scans and treatment continue. My prayers for you though, you are such a positive anchor in this group and I so admire your stamina. Bless you and know the Angels are watching over you…Gloria

  4. Mary, you’ve been in my prayers for a long time and will continue to be! It’s wonderful that you are able to keep creating through your pain, for those less fortunate, instead of just feeling sorry for yourself. You NEVER whine or complain! It’s not only your beautiful projects that inspire us; it’s You and how you live your life for others!!! Thank you for sharing with us!

  5. Oh, Mary. I’m so sorry your surgery was postponed, and that you have to go through more testing. Ugh. I can totally relate. I had to wait nearly 7 months to see a GI specialist after some “odd” things happened in April, and needed further investigation. It just took time to get the GI appointment, but the nurse practitioner that I saw in the GI office had a pretty good idea what was going on based on my symptoms and previous blood work. But, I needed ONE MORE TEST to confirm it. UGH!! But, I knew within 24 hours of the test what was going on, and what needed to be done to correct it. And then I had to wait a few weeks to get the procedure scheduled. Nothing moves quickly in the medical field, unless it is truly an emergency situation.

I’m sure you are tired of it all, and just want to get on with your life. However, I am sure you are happy that you have hobbies that you can still do while waiting to sort out everything. The “waiting” for everything to be in place is the hardest part, I think. I will keep you and your family in my prayers until things can fall into place for your surgery. And you are NOT whining!! I’m positive I would have been complaining much more than you have complained on your blog. It’s just bloody annoying to know what the problem is, and then have to wait to get it taken care of. Complain all you want/need to those who can and will listen.

  6. Sorry to hear that health issues continue, and I hope that a resolution/plan of action appears soon. Cancelled/rescheduled appointments are no joke, as one is looking for answers ASAP, not when the schedule “allows”. Keep knitting, keep quilting- your generosity has certainly had an impact on many. Take care-

  7. I always feel that when sharing health news, it lets your readers pause to think about their own health. Persistent aches, pains, and other issues that we deal with are a sign that something needs to be checked out. So glad that you are comfortable sharing your health issues. We will all go through good days and not so good days. Know that there are many who are keeping you and your family in their thoughts and prayers. Once you are able to have your surgery done, you will be “on the road” to better health. Till then, listen to your body, do what you can when you can, and enjoy each day to its fullest. 8. I was very healthy until I hit 40 and then lost control. I depend on many doctors and medications but at 71 I am making it and doing a lot of the things I enjoy. Just gotta do what you can. Hopefully this is just a bump in the road and there are very few ahead.

  9. I remember you posting about this hat a year ago and I tried it out. As you say you have to try your best with the jog-less method. I’ve looked on YT and I now just slip the next stitch through the back – not the best but better than it would have been,
Ditto on all the above comments about your health. Hope you have a nice weekend crafting 🙂

  10. So sorry about all these health issues Mary, it’s really awful to have this sciatica pain. My dog knocked me into a door frame and I cracked my tailbone the day before we were to leave for our winter trip to Texas. Sitting in the car driving was so painful and it’s continues to be painful since then. The cracked tail bone caused sciatic nerve pain and is now in both legs. I am much older than you at 77, but I sympathize with you completely. I know some of what you’re going through. You are such an inspiration to everyone because you just keep quilting and knitting for the unfortunate, I know this keeps your minds off your troubles. You’re definitely not a whiner so throw that thought far away right now. I am not a religious person but I do believe in God and I know that we are watched over. Take care.

  11. So sorry that you have to wait until January for your surgery. Hopefully you’ll have no more delays.

  12. I’m sorry your surgery has been delayed. Just when you thought relief was in sight. I appreciate your sharing how you are feeling healthwise. Yes, you come off as sharing, not complaining. Prayers going forward.
BTW: I love the colors on this hat!

  13. I’m so sorry your surgery has been postponed. I try to look on the positive side and think maybe there is a hidden blessing if things don’t go the way they were planned. My husband is still suffering from his back issues and scheduling procedures and injections has been a nightmare for him. Health care has definitely gone downhill since we were both working in it. And our age plays a big part too. Very frustrating for sure!! The hat is a very cute, but I would also be bothered with it not matching in the back. My linen crocheted baby afghan is coming along nicely. I love the pattern. Did you put a border on yours, and if so what did you do. I am thinking a ruffle border for the girl baby but not sure about the boy baby. Two new great grandchildren arriving in the Spring one month apart. Very exciting!! Best of luck with your appts., etc. I hope things get worked out soon! Thank goodness for hobbies!!

  14. Yes, health maintenance is wearing… Even when things are going well, there seems to be something that gets out of whack… For me it is a bit too much activity or maybe something in my diet or maybe it’s just the cold… Hang in there!
