As a longarm quilter, you might wonder why I would be happy to be offered the opportunity to review a quilt as-you-go book. Years ago with our move to Minneapolis, I had to downsize my longarm and table because I knew with that move and in the coming years that I would not have a room big enough for the larger machine on a 12 foot table. For the most part it has worked out very well for me with one exception – I’ve been wanting to make a couple new king size quilts and the table isn’t big enough for me to make as large a quilt as I’d like.
I’ve been toying with the idea of quilting the center of the quilt first and then quilting a border and joining the two using a quilt as-you-go method so I was thrilled to read through Judy Gauthier’s Quilt As-You-Go for Scrap Lover’s Book from C&T Publishing.
This book was even more interesting to me because it’s a scrap quilting book and you know scrap quilts are my favorites. And for those of you who love scrap quilts that are more color coordinated verses the kitchen sink type with everything thrown in, the book offers information on using color theory to create scrap quilts that you’ll love.
Judy offers step by step instructions for several quilt as-you-go methods for me to test out before tackling a king size quilt and from a scrap quilt perspective, I’m anxious to experiment with her Treasure Box Block. Isn’t this a fun scrap quilt?!
Judy also provides some quilting tips … so with instruction on quilt as-you-go methods, color theory, quilting tips, and patterns for incorporating all of the above, the book is jammed packed with great information.
