I finished the blocks today for my Disappearing 9 Patch quilt from Charm Squares and it’s ready to assemble but I’m already thinking about how I can use this idea again. One for sure will be using the same layout and just substituting 5 inch squares from scraps where I used the Charm Squares.
But as I was cutting my blocks I also realized that these could be self sashing by just rotating the blocks. I can see doing this with Charm Squares, squares from scraps, AND from novelty squares!
I have a large bin with leftover novelty scraps and I use them in my Happy Block Quilts but this would be a quick easy layout for them too. I played a little in TouchDraw to save the idea for later!
I haven’t done all the math so I’m not sure how many of these “blocks” I’d use in my quilts – it would depend on the fabrics and intended donation recipient – but I’d start with 5 inch squares for my 9 patch and go from there. (The white line is the cuts that are made after the 9 patch is pieced.)
