I’m a big reader and a bookshelf quilt is one that I want to make for myself. I’ve looked at ideas on and off but got sucked into the rabbit hole today and thought I’d write a post with some links for me to refer back to when I’m eventually ready to make one and maybe it will inspire you too.
A Google images search brings up lots of photos with links to different websites.
Pinterest is another good place to search …

And just when I was about to stop my search and pull out my crochet blanket … I came across a link to this site … it’s full of photos but not instructions. There are so many possible variations that it’s always good to look at a bunch of different quilts for ideas.
Have you made a bookcase quilt? If so do you have any advice for the rest of us?
I’ve often thought about making a bookshelf wall hanging. I’ve watched videos and collected a few ideas. I prefer the ones that also have objects on the shelves and not just books – photo frames. flowers in a vase etc. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with, once you can find the time 🙂
Oh gosh, Mary. I had never thought about making a bookcase quilt, but now you’ve got me thinking. I, too, like the ones with knick-knacks as well as books. I think I will start setting aside pieces of fabrics that would be good for books and the other things that can go on the shelves.
I’ve seen some really cute bookshelf quilts. I like the ones that have plenty of extra items of interest on the shelves along with the books. One that I saw somewhere even had the book titles embroidered along the spines.

What a coincidence! I just started a bookcase quilt for my grandson who’s a fan of Star Wars. I’m using this pattern as a starting point https://www.missouriquiltco.com/products/book-review-quilt-pattern-by-missouri-star
It uses a 10 inch layer cake but I’m also using random strips of fabric. I can see doing this again with a different theme. It’s a lot of fun and each one is very unique.
I’ve always wanted to make one, especially for my book loving son. For him I’d have to have some books with correct titles. Guess I could use the built in letters on my sewing machine. I would like to make one for my granddaughter who is an avid book lover. She is also a beginning quilt maker so I know she would love to have one.
