Dutchman’s Puzzle

I’ve had some questions about my scrappy geese. The block is known as Dutchman’s Puzzle and there are many different ways to make it. I haven’t written up a full set of instructions but I’ll share some quilt notes here for those that are interested.

My geese are 3×6 inches finished (3.5 x 6.5 with seam allowances) and my block is 12 inches finished (12.5 inches with seam allowances)

I used my Blue Wren 6 inch finished quarter square triangle and my Accuquilt GO 3 inch finished HST dies to make my quilt but you can use any method of making flying geese that you prefer … google it! There are lots of different methods. My favorite method before getting my Accuquilt GO was the Eleanor Burns flying geese rulers.

I made 20 blocks for my quilt using two colors per block.

Sashing and cornerstones were cut 2.5 inches.

Finished quilt size is 54 x 68

  1. Is a QST shape used to put the long side of the triangle “on grain”; for less stretching/more accuracy?
