Cookies!

Do you bake cookies?? I always make home made cookies in December … we call it Christmas Cookie Season around here. They’re yummy but not very fancy.

I was offered an opportunity to review Morgan Beck’s Royal Icing Cookies book from C&T Publishing and jumped at the chance to learn something new.

I’ve ordered some supplies from Amazon and have been studying. The book includes recipes for making the cookie dough and the icing along with unlimited ideas and instructions for some VERY creative cookies.

My plan is to start simple … how about some snowflake cookies?

I also thought that this was a fun idea – I can see myself painting Halloween cookies with the kids.

And which one of us wouldn’t like to bite into a quilt block?! With those simple square cookies, there are all kinds of opportunity for creativity.

While I don’t ever see myself creating the more intricate designs that Morgan does, she shares plenty of simple and creative ideas that I can see myself playing with.

If you’d like to win a digital copy of the book and have some fun with cookie decorating, leave a comment and I’ll draw a winner randomly on Friday morning.

  1. I love baking Christmas cookies too. However I tried one year to do decorations on the cookies and didn’t enjoy it at all. It’s a tremendous amount of work. I’m not big on frosting to eat so I never made them again. Please don’t put my name in the drawing. Good luck Mary, I hope your cookies turn out great.

  2. I would love to win this book. My daughter and love baking together when she is home from school. I can’t wait to see what you make Mary!

  3. Oh how fun!! The creative in me is just itching to try that. Maybe some Christmas cookies, some cookies for the neighborhood ugly sweater party….the list goes on!

  4. Those cookies look amazing. I will have to look for more cookie cutters – Amazon here I come. Safe travels Mary, Merry Christmas and have a wonderful New Year (can’t wait to see all you accomplish in 2024).

  5. My mom used to make those kinds of cookies. Usually at Christmas and Easter. She rolled out and cut up gumdrops for decoration. I have never seen cookies like hers. It was ….almost…too pretty to eat. haha

  6. How sweet of you to share with your readers! I love to bake cookies year round, but royal icing is not my strong suit. I’d love to learn.

  7. I always say I am going to make frosted sugar cookies, but find that I only have patience for eating them not making them. Maybe this book would be my inspiration!!

  8. Looks like so much fun and you can eat your mistakes too! Definitely count me in on this 🙂 Holiday greetings!

  12. Oh Mary, that sounds like so much fun. Wish we lived close, we could whip up a cookie storm and invite tasters in for tea and a cookie. The decorating looks a bit intimidating to me, but I guess that is where the book will guide you through.

  13. I have passed down my sugar cookie recipe to my daughters, who now make them with their kids too!

We spend Christmas in TX with one of my girls, and it our tradition to decorate cookies every year!

  15. Mary~~I always see these beautiful cookies in specialty bake shops–and it would be delightful to try my hand at it—but after I went to so much work, would I want them eaten…?

  16. Oh my! I would love to win this so I can share with my neighborhood kiddos. I have read your blog from nearly the beginning but I don’t comment often. I have made so many of your quilts and absolutely love your website with instructions. In fact, today I am making your framed nine patch quilt for someone facing a double knee replacement. Thanks for the many years of wonderful content on your blog.

  17. I’ve often wanted to give royal icing a try, but it always looks so complicated. I do love baking though and might have to give this a whirl!

  18. Thanks for this post and the chance to have a digital copy of the book. A while back, I took a cookie decorating class with my niece from a professional cookie decorator who had her won business. It was so much fun. She also shared her recipe with us and many tips. Great fun and delicious too. Sunshine and Smiles

  19. This is a fun idea and I’ve always admired fancy decorated cookies like these. At this point in life I actually have time to learn. Are there kid friendly instructions in this book? Decorating cookies with and for the grandkids is a lot of fun, but those quilt block cookies! ❤️ Have fun decorating cookies, Mary, and happy holidays.
