A new start

I did get a couple hours downstairs today and got a good start on a new top. This one is from a Connecting Threads kit and I’m actually making the pattern in the kit. A lot of times I just use the fabric and make something else.

Thanks for all the good wishes for Keith’s recovery. It’s going to be tough wearing that sling on his RIGHT arm for 4 weeks. It limits what he can do including driving, and it can be very hard to get comfortable especially to sleep. He’s sleeping in a recliner but I can’t imagine how hard that will be for 4 weeks!

We did get out today for a nice lunch by the lake and a walk to stretch our legs! Keith feels cooped up if he doesn’t get out of the house so I see a lot more outings than usual for me in the next few weeks.

  1. Have made several QOV rain drops its a chandelier block not set on point.
Hope Kieth has a free of discomfort recovery.

  2. So glad Keith’s surgery went well, but maybe you can find some part of quilting he can help you with when he has time to heal a bit. Gloria

  3. I’m impressed with how soon Keith is getting outside. I’m sure the change of scenery will make him heal faster.

  4. My son had shoulder surgery on Tuesday. He had a tear and they also found a muscle tear. He will be in a sling for 10 weeks. It was his left shoulder and he is left handed. I hope both guys heal fast!

  5. Wishing Keith a speedy and permanent fix for his shoulder. Not easy finding ways to sleep comfortably post-surgery. Glad you are able to get some sewing in. Really like the pattern in this kit.

  6. My post-surgery answer to getting comfy on my side was to use several pillows to both elevate my arm and prevent me from rolling onto my back. I had to wear my sling/brace for 6 weeks! Also my right shoulder, which meant no sewing.

  7. Great pattern choice, especially since it is a kit. This should go together quickly and be enjoyed by the recipient.

Hoping that Keith’s post surgery healing will be comfortable. Last year, after my broken elbow surgery, the foam wedge pillows that my daughter bought me were a real life saver. They were purchased on Amazon. The series of wedges made sleeping very comfortable and made moving in and out of bed a breeze. She used the same wedge pillow set after her hysterectomy. Just a thought.

Enjoy the weekend and the nicer weather.

  8. Glad surgery went well. I was thinking that some wedge pillows like Donna suggested might help him sleep. I remember they helped when my husband fell and broke both of his arms at one time.

  9. He remains for however long and you drop a lot of things to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself but there will be a happy ending! I did this twice once without a recliner bit can say it is my view that the recliner helps. May I suggest he sits somewhere else for enough hours a day to keep his back in different positions so a really bad ache doesn’t set in. And you both like hiking.

  10. Glad his surgery went well. Getting out and walking will not only help prevent boredom but will also keep the rest of his body. Prayers for grace and strength to meet each day.. and maybe a little patience too so his body can completely heal.

  11. I’m sure those walks will be good for both of you during his healing process. Love that new quilt you’re working on. Such pretty fabrics in the kit! The blocks look like a variation of the Chandelier/Beads blocks.

  12. I’ll keep Keith in my daily prayers.
Two of my family members had shoulder surgery and the physical therapy is awful!
Good thing he has you — you’re both so good to each other.

  13. I’m sorry I missed the post about Keith’s surgery. Rotator cuff? My husband has had both done and yes the sleeping in the recliner is not a ton of fun.
    Thinking of you both.

  14. Mary…I have heard that using your non dominant hand is very good for the brain and reduces chance for dementia. Have you tried this? Hope all is well as can be.
