Prep work

I went downstairs today intending to start a new string quilt but got sidetracked. I’d been talking with Nancy yesterday about a Town Square top she’d made for Quilts of Valor and decided I’d make a Town Square quilt. I got started and then thought about the advice Stephanie has given me on having some projects lined up for my post op period. Apparently my arms won’t work that well lifting and cutting so I decided I’d prep this one instead of finishing it. Blocks are all ready to assemble.

And since I didn’t sew the blocks … I had time to prep another one! Town Square is a pattern from Fabric Cafe. I don’t put the narrow borders on mine and I prefer a double fold binding to the one they use but it’s a great pattern for a fun novelty print.

Yesterday, I also got bindings on the last two tops quilted before I left for Virginia last month. Now I have 4 ready to hand stitch down during my post op period …. Another good suggestion from Stephanie!

Now that I’m into the prep work … I think I’ll get another one or two cut tomorrow. I’m thinking Happy Blocks … some Strippies … we’ll see what jumps out at me!

  1. I know your surgery is coming up soon and now you are getting ready for afterwards. Hopefully you’ll sail through everything. Cutting out fabrics for several quilts will be a great incentive for you. I think I’d like to cut out a few now too.

  2. Good thinking on your projects. Post any surgery is always a bit difficult. Having prijects ready is great. Sending prayers and a speedy pain free recovery.

  3. Planning is a great thing since you are distracted now and will have great options after surgery. Stephanie. is taking Really good care of you!

  4. You’re smart to have some projects all prepped to work on as you recover from surgery. Town Square has been a pattern I’ve been thinking about too. It has a sticky note marking it in the pattern book. I’ve made a couple of quilts from those 3-yard books. A small group of us got together a couple of weeks ago and spent the whole day sewing quilt tops for Sleep In Heavenly Peace using the Fabric Cafe books. One of the gals had kitted up 3 quilts from fabric donated – just doubling the patterns to make the quilts big enough.

  5. I have made several Town Square quilts. They are good for fabric that you just can’t cut up. When I had a mastectomy a little less than 2 years ago, I had my daughter put two sewing machines on my dining room table. One Featherweight for piecing and one with a walking foot on it for binding. I couldn’t lift much. I managed to make 3 three yard quilts for Christmas presents. Prayers for your speedy recovery.

  6. Love the fabrics for these quilts. You always find the cutest focus fabrics. And what a great idea to have these quilts ready to go for when you feel well enough to work on something.
Prayers going forward… for you, your family (because this does affect them too) and your care team.
