It’s a mess!

I went downstairs this afternoon after getting home from a lunch outing with a friend. Once again I should have gone ahead and started to assemble the Strips and Strings Rail Fence blocks on the design wall but I had things out from making the pink and purple little quilt so I decided I’d just finish up pulling some backings, batting, and threads to take with me to VA next week. We’ll be there about 8 days and decided I’d work on getting some of the little quilts actually quilted.

First I was digging through bins with leftover flannel that could be pieced together for backings … found that.

Then I started digging through bins looking for thread. I decided I’d hand quilt 2 of the tops so I needed some perle cotton, crochet cotton, or floss … yep I use all 3 depending on what shades I want and have. I have 4 or 5 bins of these various threads scattered over 2 rooms.

So … I’m using crochet cotton for the Purple Pinwheel

Perle cotton for the green star

And the RWB squares is going to be machine quilted

They’re all packed up with their threads, backings, and batting … and extra pins since the RWB one is the only one pin basted … and ready to take to VA.

While I was digging around for thread … I came across a large zip lock with some orphan blocks … by now I have my process down pretty well using my design wall and rarely ever have extra blocks but these were old … in fact I can’t even remember making some of them.

The reason I even looked through it is that Nancy mentioned that her group started with their orphan blocks when they decided to make some of the little bear quilts.

This could become the center of a little quilt

Don’t remember making this one either … but again could become the center of a quilt.

I remember making a wall hanging back a while ago with pieced trees but didn’t remember making so many extra blocks.

There are brown 4 patches … which is kind of dull on its own … but maybe they could be paired up with a novelty fabric??

And there are some 9 patch sections all ready to be assembled along with one twisted 9 patch blocks all leftover from this quilt. Those can used too.

I desperately need to get things sorted and more organized but I’d rather be sewing or knitting or crocheting!!!

  1. My sewing room has piles everywhere. And fabric laid out for my next quilt. I haven’t sewed for about 2 months but I’m almost well, and I’ll start soon. I doubt your room is as bad as many of your readers. Me first too.

  2. I went into my sewing slave yesterday to do some decluttering/ organizing and ended up working on 2 projects!! Told myself if I distanced them there would be less me. 🤣

  3. I understand pulling out so much!! Great that you have plans to use the treasures you found! Again, yesterday I was confronted with the mass of fabric and supplies I own! My goal this year is to use what I have but always seem to need background fabric!
